I am not convinced that scouts, priests, or any class *NEEDS* reach. It sure is convenient, but necessary?

yea very convienient... and depending on race you may not, but with how low the pbase is, and the fact that the last 5 chars i have rolled i have had to level alone, and considering that if you are front row many NPCs will target you even if you make your pet start combat it would make leveling ultimately more difficult for most races that would be any of the above. I dont know, imo it would push away from playing many classes via leveling can already be difficult enough even with reach if you do or dont know what you are doing!!!

I think you said something stupid.

This game and its toxic grind is highly dependent on reach.

Snoop people leveling and tell me how many priests don't use reach to deal damage to journeyman.

Tell me how many sorcs don't use reach to get around the wonky targeting mechanics for magic missile.


Then tell me how many n00bs you saw.

I hope you didn't mean mercs/barbs don't need reach either.

Because yeah, Sorcs need to be even more invincible. (Granted, current sorcs kind of suck, from what I've heard. How do you get ganked by a barb repeatedly?)

I believe that polearm skill says which classes should get reach. If the class does not have polearm any form of reaching weapon is already limited by the code. I'd only see that removed. The classes that do not have polearm have options. The problem is that people see the "convenience" as a necessity. Why should there even be a polearm subtype? Just split them out into the others or make the pole weapons into polearms. Should heavy armor priest get polearm? Yes, but they should lose something. Should scouts get the ability to make their own bows? Yes. Should exotic type weapons have the ability to reach? No. Do I think it would be awesome if we had the ability to customize our characters in more ways than the points you put your stat trains or religion/cabal/race combination? Yes. Do I blame grep for not making it happen? Of course.

People demand convenience from that which they do for leisure, yes. Because if it isn't convenient, they're spending time working on making it happen instead of just doing it. Fun becomes some far-off promise, and grind becomes the soup du jour. If I wanted to earn convenience, I could do that without playing a free text-based game. That's how society works.


I'm not ragging on anyone specifically, but seriously. How hard is it to build in something as simple as a better cabal/tribunal situation, or rationally re-examining the weapon system to reduce all the dead weight and exploitables?

We don't know.

We're not allowed to know.

Make SK open source.
