You should be able to determine some sort of minimal quality rating by just looking at an item, perhaps with the examine command.

I had these robes and I've logged out like 10 times and I kept them then all of a sudden they get stolen. For the first 5 logouts, i took everything from them before I logged out, after 5, I was like cool, they're mine. I first got them at vet 1. I'm now expert 3, and they got stolen.

Exa robes

Blah blah normal description stuff.

"This item is made with master craftmanship and would be taken by thieves without hesitation if they were to be left alone" for near-god like.

"This item is obviously well made(or whatever) and thieves would most definitely want this item." for outstanding.

So on and so forth.

EDIT: Oh, and help file for quality would be nice to go along with this.

help file would be nice and easy and not need coders, I don't think, based on changes I saw

as for item quality, do what everyone else does, play something with identify, and remember the information for next time around.

Also remember - a level 1 character has the potential to hold onto a level 50 item. Its just a very small change. I don't think you are ever guaranteed to lose an item to thieves.

This would be a good change, especially helpful for newbies.

I approve.

You should be able to determine if any single item is out of your level range, and just have that injected into the examine command.

If the item is below your level, add something along the lines of "The quality of $ShortDesc$ leads you to believe that you could not protect it well from thieves."

Heck, Algorab could write that without having to even recode the MUD, based on the stunt pulled back when no one was allowed to cast:

OnExamine(If Owned)/OnWear: If (ilevel > level) pecho "Your ${short} may attract the unwanted attention of thieves."
