Hi readers,

In the past I have proved to myself that increasing one's size did not increase the damage of backstab. I tested this by increasing size of rogue, weapon, and backstabbed 10 times. Then I repeated without increasing size. Interestingly enough, the damage was in the same ball park. However I did not test cleave.

Also I discovered that even +1 damage roll in backstab was a huge difference, which can come from buffs/enchantment/symbols. Disclaimer though, prior to the testing there were a lot of complaints so it is possible (I am not ruling out) that Dulrik may have quietly fixed it without documentation.

Now something else has been on my mind for a while and I don't have time or reliable method to test this on my own. So I come to the public with this and maybe you can help.

In 10+ years experience of playing I have had several Sorcerers and Priests. I am almost positive that holding spells do not have effect on enchanting and brewing, neither do standing or sitting down. These are something I would refer to as urban myth.

I am somewhat positive that those with higher intelligence scores tend to enchant better. By better, I specifically refer to more brilliants (+2) and relatively fewer resistances. 23 int characters tend to enchant better than those with less from my experience.

Somewhat recently, I played a Priest with 25 wisdom score. She almost never failed to brew. 80-95% success rate. Sometimes out of 10 vials I never failed. This is after the update to successful creation. Then I recently played another Priest with 19 wisdom score and she did not have a good success rate to brew. Probably 60-70%. Both characters have the skill mastered of course.

So now I turn to you. What has your experience taught you? Does intelligence score affect your enchanting, and does wisdom score affect your brewing? When answering, please understand that intelligence score does not automatically max when one selects a race -- it can still vary with each individual. Maximum potential !always= current score.

I would wholeheartedly endorse your theory.

My experiences were such that Kimbry routinely scribed polymorph so that she could cast enchant armor with maximum intelligence without concentrating on any spells. That being said, I believed at the time that concentration played a role on enchantments, somehow.

The human mind is built to distill and crystallize the world around us, however, and I'm just as willing to consider that enchanting is completely and totally random but for our projected patterns.

The people who know aren't saying anything, and I'd rather have them make the system better than explain it.

I voted true, for brewing. Because after watching Cesca, Owen and Fiacre all brew and paying attention to their success rates. The differences were staggering. Cesca(gnome) almost NEVER failed, Owen(human) only failed sometimes, Fiacre(dwarf) after much.. much.. practice mastering the skill and spells associated got up to about 50-50 success rate.
Whether it was the INT or WIS I wasn't sure but it's there, I'm sure of it. Now, as for enchanting I cannot say.. it SEEMS to work better but I've watched delfs throw down nothing but resistance and have items resist enchanting quite a bit to. If there is a difference there, I'd say it's balanced our more evenly than with brewing or just plain harder to see.

I had Qovoq brew, and he failed like..half of them.

I had Agaleia brew, and she failed like 2 out of 30.

I honestly don't think concentration/intelligence affects enchanting. I used to enchant while holding a charm person spell, and other things. And my 22 int sprite sorcs seemed to enchant just as well as my 25 int delf.

I'll soulswap Gallus if there's anything stat-wise that affects the type of enchantment placed on an item.

I'm pretty positive the only thing that affects enchanting is the level of character enchanting and the amount of enchants on an item.

I've never really paid attention to brewing though. I would assume it is similar to recharge/scribe though, and if that is the case, I do not believe that wisdom affects the success rate of the skill.
