Yep.

I basically make sure that whatever character I make will have an excuse for needing max CHA once GMd. And I max it. On every single character.

That just seems sad to me. Tried to build a merc and it just was so slow...

I'm with Peso on this one. It is way way easier now than it was in the past.

Any class, even when built with crappy CHA, should be GMed in under 100 hours, when played competently. 100 hours spread out over a couple months is perhaps a reasonable investment that is in line with the other time-sinks in the game. If syn didn't constantly level, pk for a week, and delete, she would probably not be complaining about the leveling system.

That being said, I'd love to be able to create at GM and save me those 60 hours.

Maybe then I'd play again.

I personally think the only current problem with leveling as it stands is that it's too long for something that's so EASY. For the first 20-25 levels, the only real challenge that your character is presented with is running out of PE or ME and going hungry, and in general leveling is more about finding those NPCs which you can kill quickly without a challenge than it is about doing anything remotely dangerous or interesting. Mind you, this is also the problem with enchant armor.

I can't think of anything to offset that problem, except perhaps increasing the amount of XP gained from "much more powerful" or above NPCs: But the "problem" with that, if it could be put that way, is that you'll just make power-leveling easier: But at least it will be more engaging.

In the end I'm with Baldric. If you stick with a character and even only level occasionally, you'll GM just on account of the fact that some of your friends will force you to level, and it's not at all imposing unless you're just leveling up alts all over the place. When you start playing a character instead of just a race/class/cabal combination (Which is the point of the game as I recall), leveling is hardly a game-killer.

As for mercs leveling slowly:
Code:
 oOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOo
 o [Scores] Merc                           o
 o===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===o
 o    Status: Champion(1)       Race: Giant            Class: Mercenary      o
 o   Kingdom: Taslamar         Cabal: Independent                            o
 o===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===o
 o     Coins: 1 obsidian, 9 platinum, 8 gold, 9 silver, 8 copper             o
 o  Carrying: 1/16 items                    Load: 3.1/419.0 pounds           o
 o===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===o
 o    Health: Excellent       Mental: Pulsating     Physical: Fresh          o
 o Attribute points: 0        Wimpy:   0 percent    Mode: Kill/aggressive    o
 o===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===-===o
 o You are standing.                                                         o
 o You are over two-thirds of the way to the next level.                     o
 o You have played 54 hour(s) so far.                                        o
 oOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOoOOOo

CHA: Sociable

I RP'ed a great deal on this one. I also GM'ed a gnome merc in short order, so I know they're not that slow.

Leveling is really easy and I think it's really fun. I'm one of those people who just likes gaining levels really fast though that alone is fun to me I don't care if it's a grind.

I don't mean to keep harping on this fact, but what if you're one of those people who has [REDACTED] to do and can't spend 100 hours in a week to get GM?

The only reason ANY of my characters ever get to GM is if they are long-lived.

And someone brought it up before, and I'll bring it up again. It's not that leveling is hard. It's that it's so freaking BORING.

And it's absolute trash that Syn can level a character in 40 hours, get leader flag, and delete after 2 weeks. IMMs value GM characters more than the casual Master/Champion player who has really good RP and even decent at PK (not me! I was thinking more like Myson)

I think longevity of a character should be rewarded somehow. Maybe not with leveling and certainly not with loot (we have enough of these long-lived loot [REDACTED] already) but with SOMETHING. Even if they can't log 100 hours a week like your average PK Joe.
