Yeah, veteran is horrible...

I must be leveling with the wrong people... I'd much rather stay at veteran or expert. Once I get to Master/Champ I'm like "crap, I don't have any friends on this alt. I can't train by myself. And I don't login enough to have friends at the same level as me."

Though honestly, yeah, I know what you mean.

Yeah, and she was EPIC! Every time you create a character, I'm like, yay! And then she is gone two weeks later.

Please stop. The idea was meant as a joke. Nobody wants this.

lol, I would love it. Offline leveling should never be an option, but IMO, longevity of an active character SHOULD be rewarded. Like maybe you get a tick toward a level every month you are active past a certain age. It could be coded into the the "loot" tick - so if you aren't active enough to keep your loot, you're not active enough to get rewarded with XP that month. I don't think it would be that hard to code into the monthly reboot.

As for interesting leveling, I know I'm the one that bitched and moaned about it - but honestly, I don't play enough other games to know how to make a legitimate suggestion in this case. Achernar seemed to have the right idea, but I'm not sure how complicated it could be. I just think if there were more and more options of places to level, it'd at least be a change of pace. I would love to help build more training areas, and have some interesting ideas that I'd love to bounce off some people, but it seems that IMMs generally dislike the whole "more places to train" thing.

Veteran does seem to be extra horrible, but I'm thinking it's mostly just perceived because of how the leveling curve slows down there.

In the end, I don't think that leveling -should- be changed that much: There should be incentive to keeping characters that extends into the characters' level itself, and as it stands the worst part of leveling system in my opinion right now is that it's too boring at the lower levels: Which in the end is not that bad.

Honestly, the "leveling is boring" part of things is largely something that could (and in my opinion should) be alleviated by builders, not necessarily by a wide-ranging code change. I remember back when you could die in the outpost because you got owned by a troll or dryad, and now the trolls hit like housecats and the dryads don't cast spells anymore. I remember back when you could die in the Morea caves because you walked into a fytrysk, which taught you to look ahead before running around somewhere dangerous, and for new players almost always ended up with interaction with the higher level PCs online (Because you typically died and needed help with your corpse). Those two areas in particular were changed to be largely death-proof and I'm not sure exactly why.

I wish that more leveling areas were like the Coliseum, A'van keep, or Beozaztar, than like Garazul, Chibunei, and the Valley of Ash. Those areas great for leveling, as in, they're great for reliably getting experience, but.... they're boring. Granted, having to kill 200 of any one NPC gets boring, but it's exacerbated when said NPC presents no challenge to you, even when you're fighting 3 or more at a time.

In the end, you're always going to have some people that are unsatisfied: Whether it's players annoyed because a leveling area is to difficult and they die a lot, bored because a leveling area is too easy, bored because you have to kill 200 NPCs to level, or angry because leveling is so easily ignored that no one cares about keeping their characters anymore. You can never please everyone, but as the leveling system stands right now it's really pretty good.

But pleeeeeeeease would you consider changing enchant armor? Anyone who complains that leveling is boring can apply the very same reasoning towards enchant armor with even more gusto. I still think that's one of the best possible things that could happen to SK right now: A lot of people rage delete, or just delete, because they don't have the time to commit to enchanting a competent suit for either PvP or PvE.

Well I solo level to GM most of the time so I don't have to worry about finding anyone. The point we're trying to make is that at Veteran it seems to go by so slow compared to everything else.

I've got Veteran on the slab. I just need to know if I can MacGuyver my way into phasing with conditional exits.

1. Can the same, one exit send you to different rooms based on your quest bits?
2. If the basic properties of an item vnum get changed, does it propagate to all instances of the item in people's inventories?
3. If the basic properties of an item in inventory get changed, does it propagate to the base VNUM?
4. Can someone explain the current quest API for those of us who are interested but not authorized to view the documentation? I'm talking about what mechanical crunchy bits quests involve and how those things can be manipulated.

1. No, but you can work around this with the scripting system by parking a script NPC in the room and having it intercept directional commands.
2. Quests aren't allowed to do this.
3. No, only the specific instance of the item is changed.
4. Much like rooms, NPCS and objects, each quest has a unique ID. Each quest can manipulate a set of bit flags on each character. All of the bit manipulation is done through scripts. Each quest also has a database entry which includes the data shown in the quest command as well as what bit flags must be enabled for the quest to be in-progress or completed.

I'm not asking anyone to write scripts for a quest. Cranking out the mechanical stuff is easier than coming up with the ideas and descriptions. As far as what's possible, if you've seen it done in a quest before, you can assume it is available for a new quest.

No, seriously, it was a joke.

Also, rewards for long-lived characters already exist in the form of mentor points.

Oh another few trade ideas:

Carpentry - being able to add a temporary alteration to a room. This could be similar or a wider category that the innkeeper trade would fall under. Based on level, area, etc the trade could alter a single room to have a different flag - the inn regen flag, indoor, no-gate, etc. Perhaps the additional flag would also have a short extended description in the room. Costs would be similar.

Town Cryer - Can send messages to targeted characters. Could help with seeking faction/religion, immigration, deportation, parole, pardon, etc. If sent offline, the character receives the message at login.
