If you read text on your computer screen and get offended you need to step into the real world for a solid week or so. Try walking a city street and see that [REDACTED] happens in real life. Wait, is this game coded by Disney?

I would theorize that that more people have taken offense to the written word than have ever taken offense to verbal statements. Except of course, before they invented writing.

This isn't "sexual" harassment per se, but I know one of my SK friends was recently called the c-word and the b-word repeatedly, OOCly, because she wouldn't give someone an item IC. Which is pathetic (and that person should feel ashamed of themselves) Now he regularly harasses her saying all she ever does is mudsex whatever whatever.

If she'd been a guy, that person never would have used those words to describe her. This is more harassment harassment than sexual harassment, but to me it was still pretty disturbing and a little bit sexist.

Along that line of thinking, I think a lot of guys use homosexuality-esque references to insult each other ICly and OOCly sometimes, which is also offensive, at least to me.

If it's all IC, IMO, it should be dealt with ICly. But I know some people who cross OOC boundaries and that's weird to me.

No no no. If you read some of the awful [REDACTED] in the Bible, then come to SK and get offended by something an imaginary character said to another imaginary character, then you seriously need a reality check. You'd need to turn off your TV, computer, and live in a temple to not be offended by anything if that was the case. And it would be a detriment to those of us who love the crazy things we see and read on SK if it was put into "G" rating by grown [REDACTED] men and women who can't understand the difference between reality and a text based game full of imaginary wonder. Shame on them.

I think there's a marked difference between being offended by something because you're too pious, and being offended by something because you're being sexually harassed. Learn the difference.

Someone calling you a B word or C word is sexually harassing you? Stop being an f'n P word and play the game, knowing full well there is a DARK alignment and they are gonna do and say things that might offend you. Or don't.

Did you even read my post? First of all, no one called me any of those names - it was someone else. Second of all, I said it wasn't sexual harassment, it was sexist harassment. And third of all - and really, this is the most important part of the freaking post - SOMEONE CALLED THIS PERSON the "c" word IRL. On messenger. Because she wouldn't give them an item. OOC harassment, plain and simple.

Merriam-Webster wrote:
Definition of HARASS

transitive verb
1
a : exhaust, fatigue
b (1) : to annoy persistently (2) : to create an unpleasant or hostile situation for especially by uninvited and unwelcome verbal or physical conduct

There is a difference between IC play (dark people doing dark deeds) and OOC harassment "omg you won't let me have this item, you stupid [REDACTED], you stupid [REDACTED], I'm going to IM you over and over and over again because of a stupid [REDACTED] game"

Back on topic - to a degree, sexual harassment IC is an issue - and you should make it clear to everyone ICly first. What would you do in real life if someone grabbed your butt?

Code:
Veret gooses you tenderly!

[HP:100%] [ME: 100%] [PE:100%]

You slap Veret right across the face!

[HP:100%] [ME: 100%] [PE:100%]

You tell Nytomi 'Veret is sexually harassing me in Nerina's inn, I demand you put a stop to it.'

[HP:100%] [ME: 100%] [PE:100%]

yell 'Veret is touching me inappropriately!  Help, help!  He's ugly and has a scorching case of herpes!'

But in the very, very, very rare case that someone does engage you in a sexual situation against your will, in the case of charm person or something, you absolutely have every right to get out of that situation if you don't want to be a part of it. I don't care if it's a game. I'm not comfortable with that sort of roleplay, and most people aren't - there are plenty of other MUDs available where you can RP rape or anything else you want. It's against the freaking SK rules. If you don't like it, don't play that way.

Oh yes, darkness and evil exist in the game. But reality overrides the game, and the reality is that forced sex RP would make me and most everyone else very damn uncomfortable.

That being said, I've -never- felt harassed, sexually or otherwise, from an IC perspective. Most players are extremely respectful, and I believe most little cases (like the "goose" or "grope" socials) can absolutely be played out ICly.

If and ONLY if someone charmed you and forcibly made you have sex with them IC would I say you can complain about sexual harassment. Even though I know Veret cannot do that. Though I guess if he taunted you, then removed his weapons so he could type out lewd emotes. In the case of your friend, whoever was IMing her is a B word for being a P word. That's not sexual harassment. I merely meant that the B word, nor the C word are only used on women. My wife uses them on me. Being harassed OOC is [REDACTED], seing as how you can block the person anyways. Stop having P. A. friends if you don't wanna be hit with the whackness.
