So as it is right now, 2 handed weapons don't do more damage per se but allow you to make better use of your str. The problem is they're slow.

In the game now, you see barbs using bandalores and shurikens and doing other buttloads of damage with small, fast weapons but rarely see one use a halberd or a great axe. The name of the game is speed and accuracy. A merc for example with an epee can parry things like crazy. A merc in mood defensive / epee is nigh untouchable.

However, the main point of polearms is to have reach and stuff. Heavy weapons are supposed to be sturdier, dish more damage and whatnot. In all honesty, it's going to be hard as hell to parry a great axe with an epee, even using their own momentum against them, the sheer shape of a great axe would make it very hard. Sure you'll get stabbed a dozen times, but unless they dodge the blow, parrying one would be hard in my mind.

Now, since I'm rambling, I'll propose the following point. I believe that heavy weapons such as great axe, halberds and whatnot that don't see much use need a boost of some kind. Making them faster and more damaging just wouldn't do any good. It'd just make them overpowered. What SHOULD be done is making them harder to parry or even harder to dodge in some instances. I think it'd bring a nice change of scenery to the game without overpowering weapons and having to tweak stats. Great axes for example are beastly. It's just you can't hit anything with them because of all the abilities of parry / shield block. What do you guys think? Sorry if my thoughts are disjointed. it's late.

Excellent point. They should be harder to parry. I will add this again, please please please change it so shurikens cannot be wielded as a melee weapon. They are thrown!

I find the idea of fighting in melee combat with a NORMAL shuriken to be hilarious. They're what, like an inch or two big at max?

Now, unless these are like Naruto-style giant shurikens, no, you shouldn't be able to fight in melee with them.

Shuriken were mostly hand to hand weapons. Alot of people think of them as "throwing stars" which wasn't really what they were. Shuriken were thrown, but only to distract people by making a sound far away so a ninja could pass by. In truth Shuriken were actually carpentry tools and they came in all shapes and sizes. They were grasped in the hand and they were used for clawing and scratching.

That being said, shuriken should be the crappiest parrying weapon of all because the bulk of it is in the palm of your hand with only the points sticking out from between your fingers, and those are small points.

On the topic of weapons though. I agree that something needs to change. I don't like how there's no way in hell anyone is going to use a bill, or a guisarme, or a great axe, or a warhammer, etc.... It's always the same weapons every time for everyone. Even me with my new character. I have weapons for Arpee purposes but I use one of the old standards that I know can do the job.

I would like to see the dwarven axe bonus tweaked so that dwarves can uses axes more effectively, I would also like to see maybe some balancing between weapon classes. I donno. I just don't like how you have to zero in on a handful of weapons to compete. I mean for two handed reach it's always battle spear or pike. Never anything else. For one handed it's epee, rapier, shuriken. You've basically got about four to six weapons in the game for pcs and the rest is all for mobiles.

Shuriken could be considered spiked knuckles under the brawling skill when wielded for all intent and purpose, could they not? That could be cool.

Ok, so after reading up on shurikens I found out they were used in hand to hand, mostly when grappling. That said their is is no way they are designed to function as they currently do. That is to do that much damage and to parry. It should lose the ability to parry, period. And seriously, they cannot do the damage they are doing to a fully armored person with a shield and hand weapon.

Back to Polearms and Heavy weapons, there really should be a penalty to parry them.
