There are only a handful of skill/spells worth spamming to master before engaging in PvP. Sorx mastering ventriloquate are simply stupid.

For methods of gaining experience where there is no innate danger, you can only gain so much experience per day. Once you hit that cap, you have to wait until the next day in the game before you can gain more non-combat experience.

Healing for leveling groups often entails danger.

It's not innately dangerous. You can stand apart from the fighting group and heal as much as you want. You can heal people who aren't in combat, including newbies or people who just recalled to somewhere safe.

I remember I had a lowbie paladin sitting in Nerina's inn when some random guy ran in and attacked my mentor, so I spammed my whole mana pool casting cure light on him and gained half a level before the guy turned on me and killed me. It was pretty sweet.

Dulrik, after the fix of healing experience, I have run some experiments.

Subjects of the test:
- A bunch of healers to varied levels around Expert/Veteran, one to Grandmaster
- Varied charisma scores, one of them had 24, and as a side note, high charisma does not stand out at lower levels
- I have had several Grandmaster healers prior to the fix

What I have done:
- I had extended periods of time where I did strictly healing, only in combat, no damage spells
- I had extended periods of time where I only did damage spells

Testing grounds:
- Levels 1-25
- Levels 1-50
- A'van Keep
- Lower Morea
- Heroes' Inn
- Circle of the Holy

What I have discovered:
- You probably guessed it if I am posting, in my humble opinion, there is no noticeable difference before and after the 8x experience fix
- Casting damage spells is still necessary to level in a timely fashion

What I suspect happened:
- The experience rewarded by healing even after fix is small
- The non-combat experience cap is probably quite low so the cap is always reached quickly
- The non-combat experience cap reset period is lengthy

Things I'm not sure about:
- Wasn't healing experience during combat at some point in the past worth more than non-combat?

Issues with the current model:
- When there is large amount of incoming damage onto the warrior, we have to heal to keep them alive, but we are not appropriately rewarded for healing
- When there is small amount of incoming damage (ie. 1 or few NPCs), the warrior kills them quickly, so we are forced to use damage spells to learn

At the end of writing this post though I just thought of something. Same can be said for bards in a group. They can opt to sing songs which benefit the group, or chords that let them deal damage and gain experience. Following that train of thought, maybe what we have is fine.

omg y did i writ all dis?

Healing XP was never superior to combat XP. It should not be the most optimal way to level any more than casting other non-combat spells is optimal. It's just an alternate path to XP gain that could be used if someone insisted on gaining levels without combat, although it would obviously be much slower that way. It should be best used in conjunction with normal combat.

Here is the thing though. if you want people to group up more, the amount of xp you get from healing party members during combat should be equal to the amount of xp if you were damaging an opponent. She isn't asking for it to be superior, it should be an actual choice. Right now, according to her, you have to be a damage dealer to get the most xp in a group battle.

I don't know if this can be coded or not. Here is my idea. Whenever a person heals another during a group battle they take the xp that person is getting for the combat up to a maximum of half of the xp they are getting during that combat.
