The only issue is that your logic isn't valid.

Just because a veteran or high level character can make an irrecoverable mistake doesn't mean that a newbie who can barely walk around the same city should have to suffer them as well.

I'm all for challenge, but maybe we should keep it this easy at the lower levels (or even easier) and let the mud scale appropriately to higher levels of difficulty?

There will always be a way for a new player to die going somewhere they shouldn't have. It -should- end up fostering player interaction, and at the least it will demonstrate to new players that flying over wyvern pass when you're really low level isn't a good idea unless you prefer the dead kind of exploring.

Dulrik, please don't change poltergeist. It's seriously the best thing that has ever happened to those of us who are spam-diers (dyers?). Who are good at spam dying.

Maybe when someone dies for the first time after novice but before veteran, they are flagged to go through a 'death quest' of sorts for the dead and learn all about it like you do in a newbie school before being resurrected by the oracle without having to answer a question?

Sounds like someone needs to RP with this character and came with him to help him defeat the wyvern and help him reclaim his items. I see nothing wrong with the game, but from what I hear I see something wrong with the player of said Priest not offering to assist this newbie. A newbie wouldn't turn down such a thing. So how I see it all this blame is on the priest not the game or the newbie.
