Every time someone does facial emotes or socials in a greathelm, Achernar kills a kitten. It's as bad as a smiling griffon, if not worse.

The cinematic for wrath of the lich king shows a man in a helm and he looks to be smiling at in the end

Except that a greathelm doesn't have that stupid mouth slit. They cover everything: There's only a tiny slot for each eye to see out of.

And yet we can still tell that we're looking at someone with blue eyes or brown hair and can see all the other descriptions of their face...

This is why my descriptions usually read something along the lines of:

Quote:
This humanoid looks to be male, judging from the broad shoulders on his six-foot-tall frame. His arms and legs are properly proportioned given his stature. No other details about the individual can be made out.

This is much better than the 50 lines written about some fully-armored merc that include things like:
Quote:
On the palm of his left hand, there is a red and gold tattoo of a dragon. On his shoulder-blades, there is a tattoo of an uprooted tree. On his left buttocks is a tattoo of an apple with teeth. The apple is eating a baby. On his lower back there is an old, jagged scar. On the bottom of his right foot is a paper cut. You wonder how he got that paper-cut. The hair on this man's knuckles is slightly finer than the hair in his pubic region. All of his body hair is bright orange, except for a single short white hair on the little toe of his left foot.

About thirty lines later we see:
Quote:
A tattooed male human is using:
A visored helm
A gold-encrusted breastplate
A neck guard
A pair of adamantite boots
A pair of adamantite gauntlets
A pair of steel greaves
A heavy woolen cloak
A diamond fauld
A long black ricinium (also a cloak wtf)
A pair of adamantite bracers.

Evena's was a more valid rant. By their nature socials are more interactive and so it's reasonable that the onus falls on the player to only do appropriate socials for their current state of dress/alertness/etc. Descriptions are meant to be flavor and should be read as such, with the onus being on the reader rather than the player to appropriately interpret how much his character sees. But if that sort of flavor isn't there, then nobody ever gets to experience it. There's very little point to required descriptions if the "right" way to do it is "a dude is here" and you shouldn't encourage people to write crappy ones.

What about a bonus to a barb wearing light(er) armor via toughness, but specifically for things that can be mended by a tailor. The enhanced toughness someone mentioned or call it something else.

Code:
Through rigorous training and the perils of a hard lifestyle, barbarians
slowly learn to toughen themselves so that weapons do not affect them as
much.  This toughness ability functions as if the barbarian is wearing
armor even if they are not wearing anything on that section of their body OR IF
WEARING MATERIALS THAT CAN BE MENDED BY A TAILOR.

Toughness is a skill that improves as the barbarian gains in experience
and eventually can deflect just as much damage as even the best platemail.
Toughness does not stack with METAL armor or with races that have toughened
hide.  When it comes to deflecting damage hide, armor and toughness are
all considered and the best of the three categories are used.

I like this idea, though I have trouble imagining what the explanation would be for why barbarians have tougher skin when they wear leather as opposed to mithril. Especially since it sounds like their skin would immediately become tougher once they took the mithril off.

I like what the idea accomplishes mechanics-wise, though, in that it might make the leather-wearing barb viable.

Didn't Paern run around in the water armor sometimes just for the extra hp? He did alright for himself.

Nope, must have been someone else.

And Dulrik, can you give any clues as to what you think of this idea? Any chance it or something similar is going to happen?
