Paladins are a fine class. I do recall you moaning, and complaining about how tough it was to kill Farine when you played Antiira, and you constantly used polymorph to evade bolt of glory. Obviously you had things you feared from the class, otherwise you wouldn't have done that stuff.
Paladins can play several roles, that of the group tank, melee damage output with frenzy, hosing deep-elf newbs with bolt of glory, and casting holy word. They're also decent healers with cure critical.
I actually built my last one, Ariya, with the intent of being a middle row melee fighter that used cure critical to heal those in front. That build would be even better now with the use of massive weapons, that paladins also benefit from, but they can still do all that other stuff. In fact, it's a very good first class to play imo, that and priest. At least with paladin though, you don't have to worry so much while exploring if you die as you can always use call armor to get your stuff back.
If I wanted to play the most overpowering class though, I'd play necromancer. But it's not that interesting to be able to melee stomp the entire mud with several wraith NPCs. I wouldn't touch that class again unless they lost animate dead.
As for swashbuckler, I had my fill of that class years ago, and I've been trying to play classes I haven't played before. I probably wouldn't play a paladin again either, even though it is my favorite class.
And no, I have no plans to stop playing Tolene, even if everybody is jumping to team darkie. I haven't even made it to the 2nd age tick to see what inspirational charisma is like, or the first one for my 3rd spec! Why would I abandon my character right now?!
