So I think you can summarize what's wrong with swashbucklers very simply.

They are a front-line class that doesn't wear, or get, heavy armor bonuses, and thus is actually poorly suited for the front line.

Heavy armor isn't all it's chalked up to be.

Pretty big for someone who can't be up front and doesn't get to cast sanctuary/spirit aura on themselves.

I am not reading this. I just want to say it's hilarious how many buffs mercs and barbs have gotten in the past year or so. Massive weapons, 3rd spec for aged mercs, berserk while prone, AoN. And Swashbucklers were already worse than the other melee classes before all those buffs. Now swashies are a laughing stock.

Where is the love, Dulrik?

It's so much easier to tweak a class than to add an entirely new skill subset. And that's what I really feel needs to be done in order to make swashbucklers interesting instead of just being competitive. But never fear, things are slowly happening in the background.

Understandable, and nice to hear that. Hopefully it works out! Swashies do suffer from both being uninteresting mechanics wise (taunt is really their only active skill) and uncompetitive. Especially since swashies literally have to be in the front row. They have 1 thing they can do. Try to tank. Mercs have lots of variety what with ranged/retreat/reach/etc, and barbs can at least both try to tank and do damage and have reach. I always did like seeing all the parries and what-not though, and I prefer the mental image of a swashie to mercs/etc and I'm sure some other folks do too.

I'm really looking forward to the changes and seeing what Dulrik has in store. It comes down to this: swashbucklers need to make more damage or be able to take more damage themselves. I would never go 1 on 1 against another melee class (even if I was good at PK!)

Sometime before Jennbo's swash and mine are age dead would be sexy. Thanks, D.

For real... nothing sucks worse than an aged swashie. Mercs and barbs get all these benefits now!!
