I couldn't find it in the help files, but is it possible with some sort of assist command for ranged chars to attack the same target as another person?

If not, can we also have an assist <target> and assuming you have auto assist on, you automatically target the same target as whom you are assisting?

Third row archers automatically firing at the same target as the front row mercenary if the archers have "assist mercenary" hooked up? Could be interesting. What of third row sorcs? If they c acid (no target) to enter battle following the merc? Definitely not going to suggest an auto-spell in that assist setup, but untargeted third-row casting could definitely help (at least in pve).

I am thinking that only ranged weapons, not spells but if we are going to do at least the behind thing if not front, I think it could bring some more interesting pk overall.

To be more specific, I was thinking it would be like the kill command, or the shoot command in this case. Not talking about it tracking whomever they are assisting, just targeting the last target they targeted.

I could now easily hook the targeting system up to the target that the party is fighting if you aren't fighting anyone specifically yourself. That means it would start working for both shooting and spells, since they both use the targeting system. By default, if you didn't type a target and you aren't in melee with someone yourself, your target would be whoever someone else in your party is fighting, with preference toward the leader's target (if they are fighting).

Not sure if that was awesome job in response to the info command or what I just suggested. Just to be clear, I have not added auto targeting of whoever your party is fighting and am not sure it is a good idea. Further input desired on that.

That would be awesome! Could it possibly be prioritized with the column leader? ie B3 will try to target f3's target first.

Er.. I don't think I would be for that auto targeting idea. If anything, I'd only be okay with it if you could actually see what you're fighting, but as soon as you lose sight (dirt kick/blind/etc) of your target, you should either stop fighting or get a confusion like effect.. Which would just suck so no.

On the whole, though, I don't think there's anything wrong with how ranged fighting and spell casting currently work. The fact that you have to pay attention to who you're going to shoot or aim your spells at just encourages you to learn how to strategize. That's a good thing, imo.

That is why I just wanted something so that you did actually know exactly what another party member was targeting. Hence I proposed a command like shoot but would target the last target of whom you wish to attack.

assist <group member> will automatically start firing as if the shoot command was use on the target that the other group member is targeting. It is something not game breaking for ranged shooters but at the same time, helps them be more useful in combats where there are five or more of the same adjective.
