Back the umm... up? Wow, I was proving a point by using simple facts. "Chained" spells are AoE, on every game. It's not a whole seperate type of spell group. If it affects an area, or people in an area itt is an AoE spell. No matter if it chains, bounces, hops, you put it on the ground, shoot it in a cone infront of you or however else you can affect a certain area.

But that's where you're wrong. It has to be coded differently. Blizzard is coded, to put it simply, like this. "Is an enemy within this area? They take damage." Chain lightning is coded, to put it not as simply, like this. "Hit the target. Okay, where is the next target to go and hit? Over there. Hit that target. Okay, where's the next target to go and hit? Over there. Hit that target."

If you can't see how that's different, then there's no point in arguing with you.

They are two completely different game mechanics. If your enemies are spread out, you don't want to use Blizzard because it won't do very much damage to a lot of them. You want to use Chain Lightning because it can bounce and go further.

Read the description. It hits one person, then jumps to a nearby person. There is no certain area. The area can grow or shrink depending on how close the enemies are to each other. It hits one person, then it looks for a nearby enemy and hits them. When you cast it in game, you select a target, and fire. It goes to that target, then does it's thing. A mage has Blizzard, and when it is cast, a huge circle glyph shows up under your mouse for the area you want to cast it on. That's area of affect. Now, kindly, back the hell off.

It affects the target, and nearby targets. Meaning people in the area that you cast it are affected. If you're not in the range of the spell you won't be affected.

Clearly you don't play WoW, or you would know that Chain Lightning is an AoE spell. I could show you facts with links as well, if you'd like:

Scroll down to the AoE rotation, it's the very first spell on the list.

Yeah, so can we just get confirmation that chain lightning does half damage to the caster and leave it at that?

Okay, I've found our disconnect in understanding. It's quite simple, actually. Maybe I messed up in my statements and said that chained effect spells aren't AoE spells, but I didn't mean to. Yes, a chained effect spell affects a certain area around your initial target. That is true. But it affects it differently than other AoE spells, such as Blizzard. It is a specific type of AoE spell.

Right. There are different types and ways to have an AoE spell, but it's still AoE. And the update says "AoE spells", which would not leave out chain lightning.

Muktard was arguing that Chain Lightning and other "chain" spells weren't AoE at all, they were a whole different spell type on their own. Which is false.

AoE is a spell or effect that is contained to an area and effects those in said area. So regardless if the spell bounces from person to person, it is still contained to said area even if a person or two is missed completely. So sorry, chain lightning is an AoE spell.
