I propose a new spell called web, or entanglement to make it a bit more original. This spell will enshroud the target in a mesh of spider webbing, rendering them useless in terms of fleeing. The mesh will ultimately check upon dexterity and perhaps a save in regards to how often your manual skills (bash, trip, dirt etc) and spell casting are filtered by the mesh.

This is a targeted spell and cannot be used to enmesh a group, or the whole room (though, if there were interest in this... I certainly wouldn't oppose it.) The filter has a certain % chance, or as I said, checking vs dex/save to actually cause your skill to become 'filtered'. Ex: bash - You attempt to bash but you are too entangled to do so. The spell would also have a timer associated to it... I think the normal timer I'm use to is something like 3-4 minutes OOC. However, if you save via dex/save on the tick, it will cause you to struggle and reduce the timer. Ex: You struggle profusely to break your bonds.

I'll lump my two cents on snare real quick, since I'm on a similar topic anyway. How snare has always worked for me has been.. snare room, wait. Someone (NPC/PC) trips the snare and they either become enmeshed in it or they don't. It's kind of like the web spell itself, but not as long of a timer. The skill dodge will also play a roll in missing the snare. I would say having dodge replace a save for the initial entanglement would be a good idea. There can only be one snare per room, but the chances of it working should be higher than the current snare, since it would be limited to one use per room. Also... the snare is something you buy from a shop, not something you simply produce. I would say rogue/scout should be the ones to use this ability. (Haven't bothered to look into snare very much at all, so don't hate on me too hard for my suggestion on it.)

EDIT: I suppose the struggle and filter should probably check against STR and DEX now that I think about it.

I assume you're referring to severed limbs. Maybe you can tell me how a sorceror is going to do that with a dagger.?

I'm open to suggestions. This is just an idea, but something I've played with for 10 years and it's always worked great for pk fighting. Of course you can still quaff recall to escape, but you won't be able to leave the portal stone until you've broken the mesh.

Ha! I suppose. I'm not use to the concept of ordering things to do my bidding. However, I thought the idea was a nice concept from my old MUD. It really helped spice things up a bit. Anyway, what are your thoughts about the actual idea, rather than letting me know to simply maim someone?

There is an old log I pulled up of a fight with a lot of webbing going on. You'll also note Hands of Wind being cast to unform Rotten from Ressa so I could kill her. Unlike most people.. I didn't care about my record, so I was pretty reckless in my pk attempts.. I suppose you could compare me to a Peso in a way. Dangerous, but dies a lot because I'd attack as much as possible, no matter the odds. http://annwn.info/file/1494" target="_BLANK

P.S. He was taking advantage of my willingness to stay and die, otherwise he would not have pulled off the kill at the end! He was using cancellation, which is a room spell that can shut down a specific spell category.

EX: [ # ] [ Spell Name ] [ School ] [ SP ] [ Cmplx ]
1 abjure Abjuration 101–237 75%
2 acid blast Conjuration 115–275 32%
3 animate dead Necromancy 104–245 78%
4 armor Conjuration 15–50 0%
5 beacon Enchantment 125–300 22%
6 blindness Illusion 55–137 35%
7 blink Summoning 125–300 35%
8 change sex Alteration 72–175 50%
9 charm Enchantment 49–125 30%

Memory drain was also a sneaky little tactic that is generally considered bad form unless you're fighting someone you truly dislike. He just wanted to win so bad he decided to use it on me, lol.
Anyway, the main reason for the log is to show you how web can work. If you see anything else in there that interests you, let me know and I'll elaborate on whatever it is.

I mean...it's a cool concept, but I'm not sure how well it would fit into the game. If it didn't disable anything but flee--quaff word still being usable for example--then it wouldn't be horrible.

Also that log is long as [REDACTED].

It is long, but you can see the affects of what I was referring to at the very beginning of it. The rest is just entertainment value as well as a look into the type of pk battle I am use to. Figured you guys might like to take a little peak into my past. As for web, the main use is to terminate the fleeing ability for a moment in order to land a kill on a sneaky opponent. Obviously quaffing recall will still allow them to get away, however, if it's played right you still might have a shot to catch them at the portal stone before it wears off. As for the filter, that's typically a 50 50 chance causing you to have to reapply the skill or spell in order to land it. I mean, if it's too much, it doesn't have to be added. I think the spell would be a very nice addition.

Why are you trying to morph SK into Materia Magica?

A few good ideas from another game isn't an attempt to morph anything. SK and MM will never be the same, no matter how hard one worked at it. They are vastly different. That doesn't mean that MM doesn't have some great ideas, game mechanics and other things that SK would benefit from. I honestly don't understand all the negative feed back from you, Yuarheer. This is.. maybe the 3rd time? You've posted on a thread I've started and nothing has been very positive from you, even your attempt to say my bad for busting my balls because you thought I was trying to further my position due to my stance on melee starting only skills.

I didn't realize anyone listened to Yuarheer. I would have told you to ignore him earlier if I'd known you were taking him seriously.
