I think that swashbucklers need to be made more fun to play in addition to being balanced. A lot of plans have been put forth, but never ended up inspiring me. The only new thought that I came up with while reading this conversation is that a swashbuckler class which had a variety of special strikes that also caused debuffs could be unique and intriguing.

Swashbucklers should just be able to dual wield shields and serve as super tanks, taunting enemies into their impassible shield wall.

Then give them a damaging move for every 1-2 rounds, like blitz. But better.

Hurts and has a chance to knock prone.

While this certainly came out of right field, I'm not sure where to go with it. I get it - Maul was dual-wielding his light sabers. But unless I'm also supposed to give swashbucklers a telekinetic "force push" ability, it doesn't seem to be a good model to me. Maybe it's been so long since I watched the movie that I am forgetting some cool swashbuckler style tricks that he did in the fight...

Actually, right now swashbucklers remind me more of that fight in the end of Episode two (I think?) where Anakin uses two lightsabers, at which point the audience goes "Oh, cool!" Then he promptly gets his hand cut off after like 5 seconds.
