Because it is a non-physical attack? Or because it is a massive, area attack?

In either case there are several other spells (c.f. warlock spells) which could enjoy the same buff for the same reasons.

Because it is a word of divine power. I believe the way it works now is that first it tries to dispel you and then it damages you. If your mirror image survives the dispelling attempt, the damage can then get intercepted by the mirror image. It is my contention that the damage should always hit you and never an image.

How does magic missile do it, if it isn't divine, then?

Area Attacks should effectively smash all mirror images. Only logical.

I've always tended to agree. It makes sense to me that if you hurl a fireball into a room that hits EVERYBODY, it would also hit ALL of the mirror images. Earthquake and the room-effect chords, too. How would the one mirror image prevent the rest from being affected too? You're not accidentally targetting the wrong image, you're targetting ALL the images and the one who made them.

If we're using logic, mirror image is an illusion spell that you can discern by striking and not finding purchase. If all the images manage to cringe in pain as the original does, then it may be more difficult to discern the fakes after lobbing music at them.

Perhaps a will save to disbelieve on area effects or something, but then you'd have to track images per viewer. Not that such a thing wouldn't be really cool, but I just don't see it being done; I would say that making a (Blur) aura following these ideas on area effects would be infinitely more effective than messing with mirror image anymore.
