I feel like I remember this idea being brought up in the 'hoarding' threads.
Where did we stand on the ability to locate an item even if it is worn by someone who is logged out? I think this would be a cool feature and fail to see how it would be damaging to the current gameplay.
Discuss?

The challenge would be in the way the spell output is made. How would you know which items were held by online players, offline players, online NPCs, or other categories? Would you be able to control which types of results were displayed?

Offline results may result in casters having difficulty distinguishing 'signal' from 'noise' in spell output based on their reasons for casting the spell.

I love this idea. I loved it the last time it was brought up, too.

Why torment yourself with knowing what you can't have?

I like the idea. Maybe it would only say "in a distant place" instead of who the owner is.

I would go with something like "...is obscured by mist." In a distant place makes it sound like it can be found. In a world where you can gate or teleport pretty much anywhere, it'd just open a door to people saying they should be able to find said distant place.

Well I don't see why chance the output.
When you get "Nothing like that etc etc" it's same as "distant place" or "obscuring mist".
It's NOT here :P

Well, it is. The characters never actually leave the realm to some mystical place. They still live, breathe, work, etc., just not where they can be found by any normal means.

What point does this serve honestly...So you can try to police hoarders by keeping a detailed log of their ins and outs and report it to the imms? I mean sure vermel is back for a few more days but still what is this going to acomplish

Because some nooby that doesn't know what the full set looks like can easily figure out what peices they would need to complete it. It would let us know how many copies of the objects there are. There is so much armor that I've never seen before. It allows a more complete database of the objects in the game. Boom.
