Last night's event was extremely fun as a planner/storyteller, and interesting as a spectator. For those who missed out, here's the short of it:
1. A large egg appears at Fecket's Bazaar several RL days before the event. It cannot be picked up or junked.
2. Kickoff of event, NPCs inform the players that it is a dragon egg and that it either needs to be destroyed or helped. Leaving it at the bazaar would be a dragon death sentence.
3. Two groups form up, pick leaders, and head on their way. Each group had the same stops with slightly different clues. The paths were as follows:
Quote:
destroyers - old blue > two-headed dragon > ayamaoan green > dragon turtle > frostfang nest > volcano
helpers - ayamaoan green > dragon turtle > old blue > two-headed > volcano > frostfang nest
4. The first dragon at each stop tells the group that magic is needed to move the egg and tells them where to go next for another clue.
5. The helpers die on their way to the dragon turtle. Meanwhile, the destroyers best the two-headed dragon and the Ayamaoan Green.
6. The helpers regroup and kill the dragon turtle, leaving mere hours before the destroyers get there.
7. The destroyers are certain that the helpers are one step ahead of them. The parchment they collected from Ayamao said something about a strip of fabric, and they locate it on one of the helpers. (The strip of fabric wouldn't have helped the helpers at all, for the record). They camp out at the egg, sure that the helpers are about to unlock it, and prepare to fight.
8. The helpers return to the egg after speaking to Old Blue because they fear that the destroyers are close. Battle ensues.
9. Destroyers take the strip, collect the egg, and head to the volcano for the destruction of an egg.
10. Destroyers win.
A few notes:
- This was entirely designed to be two groups running an identical PvE adventure. That there was PvP was kind of neat, however, IMO. I don't think some folks were particularly pleased, but I think the winners of the melee were pretty sporting about it.
- Both teams failed at intervals to follow the steps on the parchments and tried to jump ahead of the curve. I couldn't decide whether I was entertained or perplexed. Maybe both.
- Though Marfik was on hand during the event, I had planned to be by myself. Anticipating the headache that would ensue from trying to be in two places at once, I set it up as a scripted quest, which is why each team had a leader and why the leader was responsible for triggering the dragons to speak.
- NPC elves and deep elves do not automatically align themselves to good and evil. This is mostly a note for me for future reference.
Overall, as I said, great fun. Much bigger and better than the event I did around Yiggmas time last year, but I like cross-dressing undead snowmen, too. I am still missing quite a few PMs in regards to reward loot, so please get at me if you nee to!
