This effectively prevents people from killing someone and then looting their gear for a friend, unless that friend happens to be online at the time. I've a feeling that this will overall end up resulting in slightly more junk-looting, even if said junk-looting happens to be done by the logout thieves.

Not saying it's bad, but I can foresee those two side-effects being pretty prevalent.

I guess we'll find out. If this means more people have to learn how to get their own gear instead of always having it handed to them by a friend, that may be better for the game in the long run.

Only if that's actually possible. Gear retrieval is mostly a solo game. If you keep having to get your friends to help you get the same pieces when you lose PVP, you will not maintain those friends, and you will not improve. Or, at least, that argument could be made.

I think it's an interesting change. I'm eager to see it extended to consummables. If extended, it'd take care of all the potion issues.

Anything involving a crafting skill of any kind (including existing ones like scribe and brew) should probably never be included in this kind of change.

If people are looking at gear-retrieval as a solo game, that's probably why people are so terrible at it, or think it takes a week to recover from a full junkloot. A small group of allies can fully equip one or two people (including enchantments and consumables) in a few hours if at least a couple of them know what they're doing and where to look. And that provides the others the chance to learn how to do it in the future as well.

I guess my point is the same, then. If you have to regear the same person over and over, you'll eventually stop.

Making sure one group of friends doesn't have all of the high-end vials in the game is anti-hoarding, so it will be interesting to see how it is attempted.

Why is that person needing to re-gear all the time? Perhaps, he should accept defeat after the first or second death and negotiate with his enemies rather than being stubborn and:

1. Attempting to get revenge

OR

2. Putting himself/herself in situations that routinely result in getting killed

If you are repeatedly getting killed by another character and have made reasonable attempts to surrender or raise the white flag, you should report it to the staff since it is in the Golden Rule realm at that point.

Sometimes you try to wave the white flag and players demand ridiculous things. "Quit the Peacekeepers for a decade, give me twenty-five obsidian, divorce your wife, and I'm going to need your first born".

Oh. Well. Why don't I just delete.

I don't see how coins is extreme, since you can easily make twenty-five obsidian in a few hours - the others are questionable.

This is so true :drunk:

I don't love this change, but I'm not sure I hate it either. I think it adversely affects some builds a lot more than others which is lame. A couple weapons, a shield, an arcane cloak, and one extra piece of cool jewelry really isn't very much for a warrior to be allowed to carry.

Orius is right that the real problem that this fails to address is storage characters. Everyone knows who they are, and it is baffling why they aren't being castrated and instead are in fact rewarded by a change like this.
