We are currently working on a help file regarding matters of hoarding. For now please keep in mind:

Hoarding items in a Cabal HQ or other restricted area for yourself or another specific character to pick up at a later point is considered an attempt to circumvent the anti-hoarding code. If you no longer need an item and are leaving it in the HQ for any cabal mates to pick up and do with as they please that is fine, however telling other characters that items are saved for a specific character and to leave them alone is not acceptable.

No one has been punished in any regard for this but as with any issue as they come up we address them.

Edit: Changed the wording of the first sentence to be a little more clear "yourself or another SPECIFIC character"

Aren't you guys starting to try too hard here?

Not to be a negative nancy, but I'm starting to see this as too many rules to bother with. The less rules, the smoother the gameplay.

Wouldn't it be an easier solution to just make more items or something?

Pretty soon you're going to have us filling forms listing the items we want, the items we have, and the hours we play per month in order to get rights to keep certain things :D

I see this as becoming increasingly draconian and it's getting less fun to play the game. Personally I see the six item limit as enough, but I guess some are just ornery because they're not handing out enough penalties.

Lets face it, some people, and some classes are better at getting items than some others.
It's also not necessary that all people will be able to play together every day. Being able to get some stuff and leaving it somewhere for your friend to take and use when he/she logs in doesn't sound like an abuse, or hoarding to me. It sounds like fun. Yeah others might want the same stuff, but its not like its impossible to break into a cabal HQ and take stuff, if its that important.

Of course there are occasions where a player will take another player's corpse containing stuff and keep it in an HQ to prevent the other player from recovering his loot, which some find as a valid tactic while I personally think its showing zero player courtesy, but those matters can be resolved on a case by case basis, I feel.

A solution would be to set a timer on unique stuff if they're not held by a player for X hours.

I appreciate the heads up. Just a point of clarification, though, since the first part and second part of the post seem contradictory:

It is okay to drop an item(s) in an HQ, as long as you don't "claim" it and tell others characters they can't have it? Or it's not okay to leave an item(s) in the HQ at all?

Thanks.

I think Sadal's post is not being read correctly. She specifically says you can leave items in the HQ, as long as anyone that drops in can feel free to claim them. Recently there was an accusation that items were being left in an HQ and the cabal leader was forbidding anyone from touching them other than one other member (who may have just been de-hoarded during the monthly update).

Whether or not the specific details are true or not, this policy is clarifying that if you aren't carrying it, you don't own it and you can't use your position to try to retain control of it, particularly in an attempt to avoid the anti-hoarding code.

Thanks. I thought that was what she meant, but wanted to make sure.

Honestly reading imm posts lately is like a neverending punchline. You don't even need a joke.

I will clarify since Dulrik is daft.

My character, Athrae (a non-leader), left loot lying in a cabal hq. I, the player, fell asleep waiting for someone to log in. Another player in that cabal swept in and took it out from under my character, and gave it away to various enemy peoples. Then when I logged back in and asked about it, while not lording over my (non-existant) leadership. This player ran and cried to the imms about the big, bad Ardith, and to protect this player this policy was implemented.

No clarification was necessary, since the policy is the same regardless of the details of any specific incident.

There is no need to make everything about you, Ardith. You seem a bit cranky tonight, so perhaps you should take a break, get some sleep and come back tomorrow.

If I'm cranky it's because cheating is at an all-time high, amongst immortals and mortals both. And it's practically sanctioned because shitheads like Achernar can post the room description of where Earar is to jreid. There are winners and losers picked in the immstaff, and if you're not in the winners circle then you're gonna get harrassed.
