One thing that has always bothered me is that everyone can see when you leave someone's group. I think the code needs changed so only those in the group can see such for how would I know Bob was in Jill's group? Having it flash on the screen would be OOC knowledge which our characters shouldn't and wouldn't have such knowledge.

Actually, you can tell if someone is in another person's group via the "info" command.

I also personally think that makes sense anyway. Being in a group with someone means that you're standing in formation with them if they're in the same room as you, which would be a very clear and obvious fact to anyone nearby. The only weird thing here is that if you leave someone's group when you aren't in the room with them, but to be honest I don't think that's a really big deal.

Not when said person recalls (no longer in formation or even in the same room) and leaves the group or game and the message flashes across the screen. How would I know they was grouped with them?

Edit: I've seen people watch someone log out and the message of them leaving a group lead by their enemy mark them now as an enemy too. This makes no sense for that was purely OOC due to the message flashing across the screen. That is the main reason for this thread.

If you glance at someone you can see who is standing ahead/behind, but not necessarily side to side.

I think you can always tell when someone leaves a particular formation (IC) rather than group (more OOC term). Perhaps the semantics of the event should just be rephrased. <so and so> steps out of their formation. (or some such.)

I think his complaint has more to do with people who are not in the same room as their group, than in general leaving the group. This used to be a problem I had to worry about when my neutral character in the past was secretly working with imperials (months ago, so no big reveal here).

But for the sake of an example, she'd be grouped and helping imperials doing whatever, recall to say, Sithaniel, and then if she left the group or got ejected, people in Sithaniel would see "Ainhoa left Chronis' group" at which point they could be like, "WHY WERE YOU GROUPED WITH IMPERIALS?!?"

I don't think I ever got that response (I was also careful), but I get where Valk's coming from. I'm also pretty sure if a character is separated from a group and you use the info command, you don't see who else is in the group with her, just that she is in fact in a group (I know I use this to see if a wandering pet is in a group or just a freed pet).

Clearly, if you're in the same room with your group, it should be obvious. I don't really advocate for change here, just think people might not be interpreting Valk's concern as he intended it. *shrug*

If the response text was changed to is removed or leaves a group rather the name it would solve the problem wouldn't it? Leaving and joining a group is important information.

I would actually like it if their was an auto formation option, it would let you know of all players in a group at the room level. A higher leveler level would let you know who was in the same group but just knowing they are in a group is good enough for the player to follow with an info command.

Secret group membership is like secret _______ membership. The game shouldn't make it easier for you to roleplay someone stepping outside the normal usages of an association. If you slip up and are in a group at the wrong time, roleplay it. Don't cry about the game "exposing" your unique and beautiful intrigue snowflake. Be careful, like La Bonnita suggests, and the roleplay will be that much more rewarding for yourself and for characters on all sides of it.

Finally an intelligent player!

Nobody would be able to tell if you recalled and left formation. It needs to be tweaked so that when not in the same room you can't tell they left the group they was in.

Our characters are psychic. They can telepathically contact each other. When in groups some sort of mindlink happens allowing group tells to happen. Who is to say joining or leaving such a commune wouldn't be detectable to our psionic adventurers?

Leaving a group might somehow be sensible by our telepath, but being able to sense who's group doesn't seem as realistic, especially if the group leader is concealed by darkness/hiding/invisibility/camo/etc. Also, your argument starts to fall apart when you consider that one cannot perceive when someone else is speaking through tells or other mental communication, much less to whom they are speaking with.

I'd say that stepping into or out of formation in front of someone is fair game for them to figure out whom you are traveling with (so long as that person is visible to them), but if you leave a group without the main formation being present, it shouldn't be something noted to anyone else.
