Would I like to get to 30 again? You bet. Would I condone cheating to get there? Never. I would rather start over from zero players or even shut down the game for good if the alternative were to accommodate cheaters.
Ezaya, I understand that you would like to do positive things for the game. We CAN accommodate that willingness, as long as you stick to the rules in the future. I support giving contrite cheaters a second chance as long as they serve their mandated sentence and avoid any relapses. But for someone who continues to break the rules, then I am not concerned at all to enforce a player ban.
I'm not asking for any special treatment OR saying I don't agree with the rules. I'm saying I don't agree with Thuban's tact and his attitude when talking to players who are being punished. I tried to get a leg up when I first came back. It was lazy and stupid and I admit to all that. The second time was kind of where I'm focusing on. I fully admit I broke a rule and understand the penalty for using a trigger is deletion. However, had Thuban gone about my first penalty not as though he was playing "gotcha cheater" and instead, was willing to educate me(or any player) so that we don't lose those who may not have been intentionally trying to break the rules to gain an advantage, or especially those who don't understand how strictly the rules are being enforced, it'd be better for the game. You can still have the exact same outcome without all this negative attention.
But to answer my original question, why DO you think the player counts are down so low recently? I mean it's been a while since I've been around but I have to believe these are all time lows. I know other muds are maintaining decent player counts considering the popularity of muds vs other games. I just think it's important not to ask, what would make you want to play more? But ask, why do you think more people aren't playing more? To me there's a big difference there.
