There should be a cost to using this, however. I am thinking that if "stop" works, you should still be charged 1/2 of the mana cost of the spell. You have already invested some of the magic to start casting the spell.

I disagree, I don't think it is necessary for balance reasons - and it wouldn't make sense from a decorum perspective. Spells with no valid targets cost nothing either.

It's just like when your concentrating and you get hit and lose your concentration, you don't lose mana. You shouldn't lose any with this either. I think it is a good idea.
