I'm not sure it's as simple as saying "Warlocks become better because RE is harder to get". Certainly, there would be slightly more demand for brewing RE, Ironguard, & Stoneskin. Those are however spells many people already have brewed rather than have scripted on an item.

I think you have to consider the defensive nerf people would take:

Thanks to brew, all classes would still enjoy Ironguard, RE, and Stoneskin as well as Spirit Aura - does that not sound like everything your typical Warrior uses as well as everything Sorcs/Necros get from Warlocks/Shamans?

Sorcs and Necros would lose a significant number of charges of stoneskin as compared to what's available from wands (debatable as to how good this is against rogues, but certainly a big nerf to their ability to defend against ranged combat).

Warlocks and Shamans would lose access to etherealform and MI completely (Necromancers could still obtain scribed versions, with limited access to powerful scrolls, this would probably be a slight nerf on the MI front). If there is an MI wand out there and I am too much of a scrub to know about it, please let me know and I will bite my tongue. However, if there exists one it's certainly not available to the average player.

No offensive nerfs would occur if the pill limitation was expanded to cover all items.

My question here is whether this sounds like anything but a big ole whack to Warlocks - yeah, Sha/Sor/Nec both lose a bit of defensive ability but they'd probably manage to survive. I just think there's a zillion things more useful that could use attention over a comprehensive re-itemization that only really fecks what is widely considered the weakest pvp class.

I see this as a slight buff to warlocks, considering that caster classes will no longer have access to resist elements, ironguard or stone skin (lol) devices. They'll have to make friends with a warlock in order to get access to them, and they won't be able to walk through the game with every buff available just about 24/7. That being said, I still think that warlocks will need more buffs to make them competitive in game, but I'll discuss that stuff over in the warlock thread.

I personally think that the buff to warlocks has to happen independently of whether this change goes through or not.

Apply pill rules across all magical items. Give all warlock specific spells the ignore MP flag like magma spray.

It would totally shaft warlocks because they would lose mirror image and etherealform, turning them into big punching bags for every swash that knows how to quaff RE, taunt, and dirt kick (Or just quaff taunt and dirt kick, really). It would also shaft EVERYONE ELSE because since warlocks would suck even MORE, no one would play them, so there would be no one to brew the spells. Durrrr.

I don't like the change at all from a balance or thematic perspective because all of these spells CAN be obtained via brewing/scribing anyway so they're hardly class-specific, and if you were to implement it I can think of a lot of cool areas and items in the game that would be completely scrapped.

Everyone knows I'm playing a sorc, but I'm not advocating against this change on account of that: I'm doing it on account of the fact that magical classes get wands and staves for a reason, and it's so they can use fun toys. This would take out the vast majority of useful wands and staves out there, and only be compounded by the annoyance of the fact that once the current locks delete on account of it, warlocks spells would be impossible to get except for all the pros with access to leet scripted items.

Actually most staves/wands wouldn't change, silly.

You'd just be losing the powerhouse ones, which these days suck anywho.

Personally I think I'd rather see the pill/potion rule relaxed/removed than have it enforced on wands and staves.

This in combination with removing the Resist Elements spell from the game entirely (or at least make it un-brewable and remove all devices) should help balance out the warrior vs. caster thing.

I mean, imagine if there were a vendor that sold no-save etherealform pills the way one sells wands. You'd really have to think twice before entering the ethereal plane!

My first priority would be to have D fix (or at least reset monthly) the broken SK economic system, though.

I would say make the etherealform wands more scarce.

Like only having 3-4 total.

I thought there were only 3-4.
