As it sits we have weapons that perform on the definition of accuracy, damage, and speed. What I propose is a fourth definition of weapons, it will add more versatility. This fourth modifier could be called deflection. The offset of having a weapon that deflects well could be the ability to deflect attacks or absorb attacks naturally. I understand that there are skills that allow for blocking, dodging, and parrying attacks but this is something different. If you have a good deflecting weapon you can deflect attacks easier or allow for less damage from these attacks. This will offset very fast, low deflection weapons. This will be a bonus to those that tank that want to carry axes or other good deflecting weapons that are adversley slow.

So you have a shuriken, I have a great axe. Everytime you try to jab that shuriken in my face, my great axe deflects it because it is so big, and shurikens are so small. Yay! Balance! (Disclaimer, I'm not saying its unabalanced, just that it could be better)

Its just a suggestion, the floor is open to constructive criticism.

Would make balancing things even tougher, but it's actually an interesting idea. Surprised nobody responded to this.

Greataxes are not that big.

The only problem I have with that is that shurikens can still be used effectively like a knife in combat. Small, light, projectile weapons like a shuriken shouldn't be able to be used as melee weapons.

What you're describing is a successful parry. Sure, it's pretty and repackaged in another name, but all it is is a parry. I think the defensive stance is already spoiling melee classes enough as it is. There's no reason to add another defensive buffing stat.

I agree, it wouldn't be a new defense, it would just add to the chance of a parry or maybe shield block. Or give a chance of "shield blocking" even if you were using a fat-ass two-handed weapon instead of a shield. That said, I'm not convinced it would be worth the time and effort to tune it.

I having parry and enhanced parry is enough, if anything, maybe changing the text to describe a successful parry or e-parry would work?

'You deflect $n's attack with/into your $w'
