I wonder if i stand alone on wishing that religion was more important in the game. As it stands now, it feels that to most characters, religion is a distant third of importance to Cabal/tribunal membership.

even if 2 people in Waring tribunals were fighting each other, I would like them to at least argue that there god favors them. Other then Ain (and then only eye vs scale) I never see this among 2 church members who are fighting each other.

If you want to make it the most important aspect for your character(s) outside of alignment, nothing is stopping you. If you want others to prioritize religion the same way, you are likely to be disappointed. If you are not clergy (priest or paladin), there is little gained by joining a religion: access to sacred gear, protection at the cost of spirit aura, and for some religions the ability to receive religion specific buffs.

However, all characters stand to gain significant benefits by joining a faction. Religions are treated as minor importance for non-clergy because they are insignificant (or at best minor gains) in terms of mechanics. Then, of course, you have to deal with the occasional power tripping HF or HP, which is a real PITA as non-clergy since you stand to gain so little to start with.

Religious rolepray tends to be dull and uninteresting. It's someone on a soapbox either telling you that you're wrong or that someone else rages/sleeps/weeps. Unless you get along with everyone in the religion already, it's just an additional risk of punishment for not following some unwritten rule or forgotten edict.

The reason for this is that the pantheon moves slower than mortals do. Trying to roleplay someone who cares about the divine, practically, means roleplaying the same thing over and over again until the stars move.

Just look at all the IC note spam and book spam and how many people even train their written languages.

Or, look at how many people actually walked away from Thankira thinking it was a thing.

There is so much that can be done in church RP other then preach. You are a thubanite? how about going into a Temple of Dulrik and killing there NPCs there? better yet, have a sorc or charm, or necro raise dead some of there NPCs. Leave the corpse outside a city for it to be found. An open war between religions like there are between tribunals. Hell, Lets give each church a holy relic that can be captured so the priest lose there holy spells if it is taken.

I know a Thubanite that was a bard who took her faith -very- seriously, and to great effect, mind you.

I would love to, but I absolutely have to stay home and trim my toenails.

Church RP becomes killing NPCs when no one is around. And CRS.

You know what? Yeah. Let's do that. +1.

And you can meet nice people on chatroulette. My understanding is that most of those writings are done to satisfy RP requirements. So essentially, it's homework. We're reading Sunday School Homework.

In real life, there are varying degrees of religious adherence. Some people are strict, devout, and take it very seriously. Other people are sort of just Christmas and Easter people, with more of a focus on the culture rather than the religious practices themselves. If the priest accepted them into the church, then it's up to them to decide how important their faith is to them and how active they want to be in it. Now, that's IC only. OOC, I agree with you. Drives me crazy to see so many people who roll priests based on the prayers, or decide which religion to join based on the sacred EQ that's available. But I think that the best way to do this is to see people rewarded for good religious RP rather than punished for bad RP. KWIM?
