Hi.

Rallying cry is by far the most difficult skill for a mercenary to train, due to its huge mp cost and its 2-3 tick interval.

Specialize is way too easy to train, it reminds me of finesse before the finesse nerf. It takes care of itself, quickly.

Please rebalance the learning rate on those skills.

Thanks.

Learn to play your class before complaining about them? Merc is by far a simple class to play, [FLAME REMOVED].

Edit: Retreat is by far the only skill you should be using, just ask Ardith!

Suggestions that don't end with an invitation for discussion are probably, as we explored in a thread years and years ago, more likely to actually be read by the person who can fulfill your requests if they were sent to him via e-mail.

Posting this in gameplay is an invitation to discussion.

As far as I can tell, skills generally require more or less the same number of checks to provoke a skill gain tick, and the same number of ticks to bump to a new skill rank. The simple result of this is that skills which are checked frequently get to master a lot faster than those checked infrequently. Specialize, like finesse, seems to be checked for every attack -and- for every attempted eparry, and so skyrockets.

I really think that skill gains should be reevaluated to based on the difficulty of getting the skill to be checked, not just on how often it gets checked. My immediate thought on this is that casters probably get shafted for mastery versus non-casters, since combat abilities that get checked multiple times in a round tend to solve themselves, quickly.

I found that certain skills are just harder to master than others. But some skills like finesse and specialize make sense that they master quickly. If my what I have seen is correct, most attack or weapon based skill gets a finesse and specialize check. Where as rally cry is a use once and wait till it wears off.

You don't use rally as often as you use specialize. The solution is to use rally now often.

You could make it ongoing. Every [insert amount of time] it could reapply or fail.

Solution: have a bard tag along during your training to refresh your mind! Based on how much is recovered per line of song, rally cry doesn't use that much mana. It is just that mercs don't have large mana pools.
