I have noticed that with the new code change there have been instances where people will be wielding a two handed weapon in their primary and then a single handed weapon in their offhand. I haven't studied how they performed with this, as if it was dual wield or not.

I have noticed people wielding a two handed weapon *and* a shield at the same time as well and they were indeed getting both perks. Added damage and reaching weapon types along with shield block and added AC.

D, please review the new "NPC swaps out weapons" code to see if it has allowed this.

Thank you,

-M

I've seen that happening a lot. I think if a mobile is holding a weapon he isn't proficient at, he'll remove it to use his fists.

Perhaps the builder gave the NPC the weapon but made him useless with it so the newbies wouldn't get minced. Thus new AI thinks his fists are better.

Is this something you had actually worked on as an imm, Tumrall? It's true that it's not a bug for exactly the reason stated. If they aren't proficient with the weapon, they obviously will do more damage with their fists. Crippling NPCs by giving them unusable weapons doesn't seem like a great idea to me in the first place from both an IC and OOC perspective.

I know those NPCs spawn with a variety of weapons. It's possible that they were either over-looked or the class of the NPC was changed. They've been around FOREVER.

Not something I personally worked on but I did discuss using such a tactic with other builders.

I can see a reasoning behind it though. Arming the NPCs with weapons makes the area look good, but making them unskilled gives lowbies a chance. Or as Oggie mentions it could have been overlooked.
