If you have no idea why you where killed. The best thing you can do is manifest and ask. Most people will stick around long enough to give you a one line reason. They do not wish to stick around much longer for fear of you telling friends to come and PK them back.
Manifest is a command that is hidden away with the help files on exorcism and seance. I would like to see it as an "also see" in the death help file.

Not that it would have been worthwhile in this case - the attackers left the room pretty promptly after the killing.
