I don't know why this happens, so I thought I would pose the question.
Say that I have a blood wight and I go to buy myself a pet. Why does it say that I already have a pet? And yet when I have a pet can get an undead charmie, I can still have one.

Just something thats been bugging me.

This is due to the mechanics of the game -- since you may only purchase one pet, you are unable to purchase a pet if you already have the undead follower. Perhaps there is a way to amend the code to be aware of whether your existing pet(s) are store-bought or not... I don't know.

I believe more experience players may be able to provide you with a possible work-around (eg, put undead follower to sleep somewhere - go buy the pet - come back and get undead follower again). Something like that, anyway; can't say I've played a Necromancer that thoroughly, myself.

Hmmm... Never played a necro, but tried to have the undead off your group, buy the pet, and re-invite/order to accept him?

It does the same thing with sorc charmies. It's really quite bothersome. Just remember to have a store-bought pet with you 24/7 (which you should always have anyways) and if it dies, well, sucks. :(

I would say buy the pet, leave the pet somewhere, get the undead, then retrieve the pet. Certain pets won't stop attacking the undead after you land the control spell.

You have to buy the pet before you get a controled undead. Otherwise you will be thought by the game to have a pet and you won't be able to get another.

Hope that clears this up.

I have played a necro. I always bought my specific pet before I went to control my undead.

I can't think of a way around it. Sorry.

Just really just a bother really but it is easy enough to get around.

Same problem exists with all summoned/created pets. Like the Hammer horsey and elementals.

Except with elementals you can't have a pet at all. If you have a storebought pet and try to conjure an elemental you get the message "You already have a pet."
Same if you conjure an elemental then go to buy a pet.
