I am running MS Windows 2000 & MS Windows Explorer 6.0 and clicked on the Shattered Kingdoms' website for the Default Telnet Connection. I get the screen asking for my name, but when I try to type on the keyboard, nothing happens. What settings do I need to change to make this work? :-?

It is not a connection problem. You do not have the local echo on.

Press the ctrl ] and then type set local_echo and then enter and that should work.

Ok. After I enter the command 'set local_echo', how do I get back to the first screen to enter my name? I've never used a Telnet Session before and don't know any of the commands. :(

I've read the indicated material already. Can anyone give me the line by line Telnet Commands needed to enter Shattered Kingdoms? :-?

I suggest visiting http://www.zuggsoft.com, and downloading a trial version of ZMud. Telnet is one of the most excruciating and least rewarding ways to connect to a mud.

When filling in the required fields, the host field should read: mud.shatteredkingdoms.org

The port should read: 1996

The address should automatically look itself up when you press the 'lookup' button (with the calculator icon). If not, the address is: 65.242.224.4

Happy mudding.

As an aside, when you do connect, I suggest starting your character off in Zhenshi. It's currently the best place for a newbie to go (particularly if you're light aura), with easy monsters to kill that give you a pretty fast leveling rate starting out. It's also fairly easy to get pretty good equipment there.

After you enter the set local_echo then you just press Enter

No problem!

You might want to take a look at the different clients on the client page of the main site. Some of them are really good. But if you are happy with the telnet then that is cool. Hope you time here is fun!
