Does mastering the unarmed skills (self defense and brawling) help your chance to parry unarmed attacks?

I tried to test that myself, I had mastered parry/e-parry and not learned self-defense/brawling. I could parry natural attacks normally and after I mastered the melee skills I didn't see a noticable difference using the same weapons and NPCs. So I guess no.

Unarmed and armed melee skills are mutually exclusive.

...What? What do you mean by "mutually exclusive" and how in the world does this have anything to do with my question?

Training unarmed skills like self defense does not affect armed skills like parry. Training armed skills like parry does not affect unarmed skills like self defense. Just because NPCs can do something does not mean you can.

I'm curious as to how you know this, since I don't know of any help file that states this. Since having higher weapon skills increases your chance to parry, why not higher unarmed skills?

Huh?

This item has been discussed before and I learned it by doing it in-game, too.

This does make alot of sense. Revin didn't train self defense or brawling at all till later in life and I could still e-parry the [REDACTED] out of hands.
