I don't see a bug, its just the way attack spells are. Where as simple malediction spells leave the target remaining sleeping, unless that malediction spell does damage, then it wakes up the target.

And in that group you attacked, can it be that you petrified a NPC in the second row or third row? Because that also automaticly puts you in combat with the first row.

Had it been the party leader she petrified, then their group would have disbanded and the sleeper would have stayed sleeping.

Since it was not the party leader you just moved onto the next person in the group to attack.

QED

Not until a 'tick' passes do those malediction spells wake up the target.

I'm going to go so far as to consider petrification as a malediction since it can be feasibly cured with a counter spell. And knowing that the fair male human (varin) is a swashbuckler I'm going to say that he wasn't behind the others.

I've seen this thing happen before with a lot of sorcerers in a lot of different occasions. But one thing that did happen is that the swashbuckler made a save against petrification yet the sorcerer was not vaulted into combat from that. Only after a successful casting of the spell did that circumstance happen.

Lastly, sorcerers are not stupid people, they're not going to attack someone that's sleeping just because they turned their buddy to stone. And in the case of casting sleep it halts combat. The sorcerer knows that hitting someone is going to wake them up from their magically induced sleep. So why then, would a sorcerer turn and start hitting someone they've put under sleep but haven't even attacked? Or why doesn't a failed casting of the spell launch them into combat with a victim that is sleeping?

I am still in favor of...

Auto Noattack

By toggling this option you elect not to ever strike at an opponent.

Something like that would be nice to avoid outlaw problems or problems such as these.

I wasn't in melee with anyone, I had put them both to sleep and then started the process of petrifying them.

I agree we need an easy twink way to master dodge, parry, eparry, riposte, shield blocking, toughness and a few other skills(cabal skills included) with no effort at all.

'Sparring' with a healer standing by, just in case, isn't that bad.
