Prior to this I had poisoned a weapon, removed all and then wore everything again. Then I went to sleep and phantom poison struck me but then went away when the poison spell faded from the weapon.

Well known bug for ages.

The poison can also fade out if you attack someone with the weapon, before the 2 ticks that it stays on the weapon pass.

Perhaps it's a feature so necros/hellions won't put maledictions on their allies weapons just before PKs.

It only happens with poison. And it's reliably reproduced with poison every time I have tried it again.

Yes, I remember placing all 4 malediction on my weapon as Aresius before a duel with allikat's hammer paladin back then(2+ years ago) and when I wielded it, I was poisoned and under foreign affects to start a duel. Curse/plague/weakness didn't affect me.

There was a thread back then, I'm sure others have noticed it as well.

It only does it when you re-wield it right? It doesn't do it if you cast it on the weapon while it is still in your hand?

It happens when you wield a poisoned weapon. You can remove/wear after the poison is cast, or just cast it while it's in the inventory and then wear it.

As I said, it might be a feature to avoid a necro poisoning 10 weapons for his undead or a hellion for his dominatee.

Maybe. I agree that it may have been left that way as a feature. Originally it was a bug. Mortimor was the first necro they told that they could now poison/plague weapons fountains and food. I had fun with that as "The Plaguelord". I found out I could but an infinite amount of plagues on a fountain. That way the spell level would be so damn high that no one could remove the plague off a char or the fountain. They changed that to five i think now... I went around with a blood wight and dumped all my mana into every fountain I could find. MUHAHAHAHAHA!!!
