It has been a long time now that a lot of staves, wands, weapons etc are missing.
My suspicion is that after a reboot, specific ppl log in and hoard a lot of such stuff with inactive characters. Ofcourse this is something only the immortals could possibly doublecheck.

That seems a very valid theory given the swarm of people after a crash or reboot.

Let a Zhenshman player give you some advice:

Kuniyoshi, the shopkeeper there, only makes katanas once every IC year (one week.) He makes two, I believe. It's meant to reflect on how hard it is to actually make a quality katana. So if someone comes in before you do and buys the two he makes... tough nuggets, chief. Better wait another week, heh.

Don't worry about those katanas. Although there used to be only like, 3 different kinds in fairly limited number, the imms have since put like 30 trillion katanas in the game.
