The priest class is one of the few that I believe has good opportunities for every race. Gnomes have a huge mana supply, halflings can hide and sneak, elves have good intelligence, level fast, and can sneak, humans and half-elves have few if any weaknesses, dwarves and griffons can be great melee priests, etc.

My recommendation for a new character is either a gnome, a human, or an elf.

Zhenshi, then plan to move to Uxmal. I would say Uxmal first but their starting place is really horrid.

What race you are limits what classes and what alignments you can play.

Here are all the races that can be priests and any alignments:
Quote:
A glowing portal labelled - 'Human'. any
A glowing portal labelled - 'Elf'. light
A glowing portal labelled - 'Half-Elf'. any
A glowing portal labelled - 'Deep-Elf'. dark
A glowing portal labelled - 'Centaur'. any
A glowing portal labelled - 'Halfling'. any
A glowing portal labelled - 'Dwarf'. any
A glowing portal labelled - 'Gnome'. any
A glowing portal labelled - 'Griffon'. light

As you can see, only elves, griffons and deep-elves bind you to an alignment from the start. There's no "best" alignment. Choose whatever you feel like playing, but remember the choice is irreversible for that character (and there are severe consequences if you act drastically out of that alignment).

In general there are many more light (the good guys) and gray (selfish guys) priests than there are dark (the bad guys) priests. If you're a darkie priest, you'll probably be more crucial to the people around you, but you're frequently the only guy to go to, which can be annyoing if you're not in the mood to help people. On the lightie side there are more then enough priests so that if you don't have time to rez somebody they can go off and talk to someone else. It's the difference between being a big fish in a little pond (dark priest) or a little fish in a big pond (lightie priest) or somewhere in the middle with a gray priest.

Now, onto kingdom choices. Any character or race can start in any kingdom, though sometimes this could prove to be fatal right off the bat. Here's the list of all the kingdoms followed by any leanings they have towards an aura (light/dark/gray).

Quote:
A glowing portal labelled - 'Ayamao'. light/grey, DO NOT MAKE A DEEP-ELF HERE
A glowing portal labelled - 'Empire of the Bright Star'. grey/dark
A glowing portal labelled - 'Northern Wastes'. very dark, DO NOT MAKE A GRIFFON OR ELF HERE
A glowing portal labelled - 'Taslamar'. light
A glowing portal labelled - 'Uxmal'. gray
A glowing portal labelled - 'Zhenshi'. light/grey

Unless I put a restriction in caps, you're free to make anywhere you choose. The only reason why you shouldn't make members of certain races in those areas is because the guards will attack and kill you on sight, and your characters' life will be over in about 45 seconds.

Other then that, try and follow the leanings of the kingdom for your first few times. It'll be easier to find likeminded people and people who can help you.

My personal suggestion is that you make a lightie (principled/scrupulous) human priest in taslamar. Probably the quickest way to get help and support while you learn about the game and your class. I'd strongly advise against making an elf, deep-elf or griffon since they tend to be very frustrating for newbies to play because of racial tensions in game.

Don't listen to Adder. He only wants you in Taslamar because he is in Taslamar and wants to make his side more powerfull.

I on the other hand won't deceive you.

Darkies -need- priests.

Well if he made a darky priest he'd have more fun cause he'd get all the priest stuff the darkies got. If he was a lighty he can expect to never have any of the good staves/scrolls/gear. Little fish, big pond.

...When was the last time you saw Varin online? I've played about 2 hours in the last three weeks, and i've got this week and next week of finals. All I do is log in to enlight. When winter break starts up I'm not even sure I'll be continuing my swash. And since when was I desperate for newbie priests to PK with anyways? In general I don't pk with anyone who isn't a master+ or who I think is a master+.

So no, I suggested a lightie because in general exile is the most populated place in the world, and lighties in my experience are more likely to help each other, offer advice, form a network of friends/support, etc.
