After reading the discussion, does this still seem like a good idea to you to bridge the gap?

Without double-checking the code, I believe it is conceivable that I can check the difference in level between an enchanted piece of equipment and it's original unmodified version. That being said, I don't want to ONLY check for unmodified level, because then you end up with newbies that can wield GM-worthy enchanted equipment their entire career.

What I would propose is that the modified level can be up to 10 levels higher than the unmodified level without an increased chance of equipment being stolen. Therefore Masters could carry GM-level enchanted equipment but not something like the Staff of Demise. And an Amateur could carry Initiate level enchanted equipment without it being stolen.

Comments?

This is sweet. I am for it.

I think that it would still be too much for Master level characters. I say do the same but for five levels difference. I can see a level 46 character wearing armor enchanted to GM level, but definately NOT a level 41. After all, items of such value should no longer be called of nearly-god quality, don't you think so? :P

I think the 10 levels of enchantments would be a good change. It would leave incentive to get the last 10 levels. While at the same time letting people make full use of the enchantment spells to keep themselves in the PK race before reaching GM. Also it would inhibit its abuse by lowbies with mass enchanted gear.

Considering the goal is for Master-level characters to be "complete", being able to get your Master level gear, enchant it as well as you need AND keep it, makes perfect sense.

What is the point for a swashie to become a grandmaster then nxs? A few HP and PE more? Is a +10% HP worthy the effort from 40 to 50(that is equal, if not more than the effort from 1 to 40)?

GM loses its beauty. None would really try to get to GM, but only for the nice little words in attributes and score tables.

That's 5 stat trains, which could mean a lot.

My bad, less than 10% HP. More or less like 5% HP, considering you used these 5 points for the HP.

Apart from a few HP trains and a few(really few) HP gained at levelling up, what is gained? I can get 2 treasures and fast get these +HP trains anyway.

It is a joke for everyone to hit Master. Then what was the purpose of all the nerfing in leveling? I fail to see it, since it will still be a joke to hit 41, and be almost as competant as level 50. And considering you need to spend the HARDEST time to get from 41 to 50, why even bother?

If this thing gets implemented, it will wreck the balance in the game imo. Just because some whiners can't get their asses down and learn how to level.

I don't much like the idea of exempting 10 levels of enchantment on EQ. I suppose its a middle ground. I guess if a character is supposed to be complete at master, this is closer to what is needed to aid them, more than the exemption from log out thieves. I suppose I am just looking for a way to excuse upping the monthly castration rates. I would suppose that could be done without any adjustment to the log in thieves. I suppose D knows what is easiest and quickest to adjust into the code, so I'll not argue over that solution.
