"Alias rest land;rest" continually spams the message 'But you're not flying!' until you have to break link.

Yeah, usually not a good thing trying to name your alias off of an actual command. Try using an nonsense alias name.

lol

The point isn't that there's a workaround.

It's a bug, pure and simple, and one that indicates a fairly serious looping sequence that could be abused in a myriad number of ways.

And 'alias rr land;rest' yields the same results.

Because you haven't unaliased rest, yet.

Yep, good call. Still, my other point about this being indicative of a wider problem still stands.

Can it be abused? WTF? By putting your character in an infinite loop?

Yes, it can be abused by others to own you while you leave your char in a spam of a command.

For the rest of the abuse, as long as mud clients allow triggers you can create any loop you want, no matter of the in game aliases.

That is what I was thinking. What is Big D to do here. Go call every mud client and tell them to not allow this loop to happen?

It's not the MUD's problem. How much of a brain have you? (I was about to use the ret.. word but I will hold myself). It is a common logic issue. Even if you try to set such an alias on an outside client, and not directly into the mud, you will have the same issue. Because even if "rest" was ALREADY correctly aliased, the alias would be called to repeat itself at the end. And that is all. Even if the alias was not called "rest" but was called "wtf", if you had "alias wtf land;wtf" you would still get the same result.

Wow, I thought this was Bug Discussion, not General Discussion.

Here's the facts, folks: 1. It's a problem. 2. It didn't happen before recent changes afaik.

Just fix it already.
