2 ticks is enough, if you can't catch the bastard in that amount of time tough, I do like being able to log out within a decent amount of time when I HAVE to join the real world. quit being a dick.

An argument made many times before. If you HAVE to join the real world, run some place and void out. Either that or just walk away from your computer in an emergency. If your house is on fire, don't try to sue Dulrik when it burns down because you couldn't log out in time to call 911.

Two ticks = two hours.

I agree.

Okay, first off. Good change.

Secondly, for the people complaining about logging off to avoid PK.

That is, and has always been a punishable offense. Is your house on fire? Then the last thing you should be worried about is saving your character's phat lewt.

What you think is a reasonable amount of time is up for debate, however 5 minutes isn't it. The standard waiting period for logging off while engaged in PvP back in the day was about 30 minutes as I recall. Been awhile, so I maybe off a tad, but around there. Is 30 minutes always enough? No. Is it sometimes more than enough? Yep. It's a nice happy medium and I never felt the urge to report someone to get them [REDACTED] slapped for 30 minutes.

Also, a small bit of common courtesy goes a LONG way. If you really need to log out in say 20 minutes, instead of the afforementioned 30, then a politely worded tell to the hunting party goes a long way to keep your [REDACTED] out of the fryer.

As the saying went, if you don't have time to finish something then don't start it.

I think it's unsportsman-like. But if we were going to require you to be online longer, we would make the quit timer take longer. Maybe we should, that's a topic for debate. Until then feel free to call him a wuss.

That's a quote from a PM D sent me after I sent him a log where I was blatantly chasing an enemy with intent to kill and he was sending law NPCs at me. When I finally caught up to him, he logged out instead of eating a bash.

So far as I know, you're "allowed" to log off at any time the mechanics of the game will allow you to. I think the pulse timer should be at least 5 minutes now that sleep has changed. Any longer is just obnoxious for people who need to return from far areas.

Adder you are trying to light a candle with a flamethrower, I think 5 mins is just too much and things should stay the way they are. If someone quits on you then shame on him.

Did you ever think of the newb that dealt with some big monster that was more than he/she could chew? the feeling of fleeing, running as fast as you can, waiting for your pulse to slow down so you can recall to safety.

If it took 30 min to log out after PvP.... I think it might actually help lower the amounts of PvP.... Of course... I usually stray from PK's so I may be wrong... but even I have been in situations where I was killed and the offending attackers logged out almost as soon as I hit the river and death quested... I dont know if thats the norm or not but I didint like it... and anything to keep it from happening would be welcomed...

Of course.. if someone could come up for a good reason as to why people should be allowed to log out after a PvP Then I might change my mind.... But so far all your excuses suck and make me think YOU WANT to kill and log off....

I would think there should be a distinction between whether you were the initiator or the victim of a PK attempt. By the act of initiating a PK, you are implicitly declaring that you are prepared to spend some time online. A victim doesn't have that option and might get attacked 10 seconds before they were originally planning to quite the game. Therefore I would support raising the quit timer, but making it no more than 5 ticks for the victim wheras I could see it being 15 ticks for the attacker.

Eh, I think 15 would be a bit much, especially as I'm not sure how well the code would be able to judge instigator. Those of us in academic settings/dorm rooms often get stuck with playing lots of small chunks of time instead of a few huge chunks of time.
