Dammit, Tat. Can't you paraphrase that in like 1 paragraph?

I'll paraphrase.

Tat said:

I made them like that for a reason, so leave them unless they are really upsetting people.

There one line, I bet Tat couldn't even get it shorter.

Thanks, Tumrall, I didn't feel like reading all of that stuff Tat posted.

I'm lazy.

Having cosmetic swords are okay and all - my only concern is that it is in a newbie area and may confuse actual newbies pretty badly.

I've found this sword, it should at least be better than my dagger for my barbarian - it doesn't work though! Crappy game! Delete;delete...

Nope. Shouldn't be so. And didn't seem to be so last time I put a character through it. That said, this was a few months ago now. Things might have been changed

And welcome to the Mud, Warreq.

I could see it possibly causing momentary bafflement to a true newbie.

But if somebody really did judge the game on their incorrect assessment of such a small point so badly, in ignorance of the wealth of evidence to the contrary that they would have already had their noses rubbed in by that point, are they really that much of a loss?

Or are we really that desperate for fresh meat that we do need to seriously lower the bar? :P

Mind you, lots of pretty descriptions, atmosphere, NPCs that tell stories, impart information and try to convey the rich heritage and history of the game and a reason for being there vs the disappointment and frustration of picking up a clearly broken practice sword....

Okay, the place is potentially big and confusing if you don't have the patience to listen to directions or the wit to read the map they give you on arrival. In hindsight, it might have been better to have put the whole lot into a single hall rather than as it is.

I took the time to look through the newbie school and jot a few things down so there will be some changes for the Taslamaran newbie school in the near future.

And it's all thanks to the new Taslamaran KD. So thank Algorab when you get the chance.

What a horribly elitest thing to say. People that start out want to play a fun _game_, then they get sucked into the amazing depth of rp possibilities and _learn_ to become the level of players that we have/desire now.

You actually think we can just screen through new players and only accept the ones that start out as complete rp pros?

ps I do like the new academy but I would be open to more trainers (dual wield?).

[edit]pps What about giving them actual practice swords but lower their skill level? More realism + training for parry.
