There is already a skill that lets you use less PE for pets scouts get it.

So? There are two skills to knock people down and prevent casting, bash and trip. What's the point? What's the point of anything you say? We can't have riding because there are tells? We can't have riding because there's pathfinding? None of it makes any damn sense.

Point one SK is not RL one can see some similarities but if you look closely its a little different.
Point two the skill idea you have has already been implemented in a way to the class most deserving of it.
Point three which I am just making now D has only a limited amount of time to work on SK and I would rather he focused on bigger things example targeted emotes, religion based spells/skills, rather than a skill that will only really hurt newbies.

Oh, please. If you really want to get somewhere without huge PE drain, use fly. If you're a newbie, trust me, the horse won't help. You'll leave him on a mountain somewhere(this actually happened to me at least 5 times, if not only on mountains) and then you'll realize that you have 0 PE right when you get into a fight with the guardian you just ran into. As opposed to soaring over the mountain, flitting past the plains, and darting away from said guardian, who, pathetically enough, only managed to take about eighty percent HP out.

Riding pets is SO for RP. So get a riding skill.

Newbis can get a mount easy costs gold can ask about where to get one. How do they get the fly spell. Not a lot of low level access to fly. That which is is not easy to reuse if care is taken. As a newbi I did use a mount a lot. Yes I left it behind and I learnt to be more careful with it.

My current char uses mounts all the time to get around. He is Champion. It is not only RP its the fact I can burn the mounts PE not my own so when I get somewhere I can do something. As for the idea of damage falling off a mount if its not enough to kill a lowbi its not going to do anything to a high level char, so whats the point. Most high level chars would have enough MP on their gear to make it do nothing anyway.

The idea in my eyes will only make SK less newbi friendly with out something more. Im all for having a mud that isnt easy but why create things that only hurt newbies. The problem I have with it there is no real good reason for it but there are a number of reasons against it.

Thinking on this more. Perhaps if a "ride skill" was put into SK. A foe could use trip or bash to knock you from a mount checked against it. Those classes with ride would have a chance to do some of the things you cant do while mounted such as dirt kick(different message something about flicking dirt with your weapon). Perhaps decrease order time for a pet that is mounted. But then there is something already like this that gives you a bonus while mounted.

I tried to respond to this yesterday but my post never went through.

Point 1 SK isn't real life that goes without saying but that doesn't mean that SK shouldn't have skills that fit into the game setting. Riding is a skill that would fit nicely in the SK game setting and I think it should be added, like swimming.

point 2 As I have already said that just because scouts have pathfinding doesn't mean that riding shouldn't exist. There is already a precedent set for two skills doing the same thing in two different ways, trip and bash. Also, you have to have a scout in your party for pathfinding to work. There are also two ways to blind people, color spray and blindness. Does that mean color spray should be changed because you can already blind people? No ofcourse not. Finally the ability to find paths in the forest and the ability to ride a horse are two different things completely and aren't really comparable in anyway. This point is totally invalid.

point 3 Using newbies as a shield, especially when you are wrong about them being hurt is rediculous. Dulrik has already said that he was weaned on muds way deadlier then this and he things that newbs are coddled to much around here. Also the riding skill, as I have stated before, will actually help newbies, not hurt them.

I find it hard to believe that you can't understand that with the changes to leveling riding will help people because it will enable newbies to travel witbh greater ease from one explored area to the next. Simply put. Riding makes it easier for a newbie to move. So a newbie will have an easier time seeking out new leveling areas and searching for skills and spells in the absence of a mentor. Riding helps newbies.

point 1 There is a mount you can buy for the same price as a horse in an easy to find place that gives access to flight. I believe it should be removed from the game but that's another can of worms.

point 2There are no valid reasons to be against the riding skill? You are saying there are but you haven't said any. I can say there are tons of reason to be for the riding skill and there are, I have stated them above. The fact is there is no good reason why this skill shouldn't be added to the game. It would be an amature level skill with the same cost as Swimming.

point 3Thinking on this more isn't what you are doing. Either you don't understand the riding skill and it's benefits or you refuse to admit to them because you don't want the skill, either way all you are doing is stateing non-sense that in no way, shape, or form has anything to do with the riding skill. In no way, shape, or form does the Hammer skill you are talking about give you the ability to kick dirt while mounted, reduce order lag, or trip or bash people off horses. You have no idea what your talking about.

I agree, we should make the game less fun and more harderer.

How is it that much harder to go to a trainer in a noob area like Sukra and learning riding? You won't have to the outerplanes to learn the skill. It's just an amature level skill.

Two quick things about how it makes Sk harder XP to train skill ride at a newbi this could mean an extra hour in the newbi school RL time. Chance to get hurt from failing ride this could mean a trip to the afterlife as a newbi. It comes back to the simple Pro vs Con. Im seeing a lot of Cons and, well as it stands no Pros. What is the point of the Skill. What does it achive. Basicly why should coding time be spent on this over say making a new race. Reworking the level advancement system so that is says congratuations you are now a mentor.
