A battered and blighted road
Before you is an abused cobblestone walkway, many of its octagonal stones
long since removed from their proper place. Covering the path is the
shattered remnants of the stones as well as the fetid decomposing remains of
algae and ferns. What was once designed as an aid for walking has long
since degenerated into more of a hazard than a help. It looks as if the
trail continues to the north.
It's cloudy, warm, and calm.
Obvious exits: n wilderness
A cobblestone walkway leads back into the swamp.

This once somewhat useful path has now become more trouble than it was
ever worth; the holes in the cobblestone allowing stagnant swamp water to
permeate through the dirt. It looks as if any step upon the sludge could
cause the valiant stones hanging on for cohesion to finally give way to the
sands of time. The decaying plant life mixed with soupy mud upon a steep
downward slope make this a dangerous terrain to be walking on.

Before a gnarled wooden archway made of cypress
Standing in front of you is a massive gateless archway made of cypress
gathered from the nearby swamps. Its gnarled and tangled surface seems to
mostly be formed from the knees and limbs of the tree rather than the actual
base giving it a stringy and overall weak look. A distinctly faded line is
immediately noticeable about halfway up the wood, most likely from swamp
flooding. The wooden wall continues to the east and the west while
stonework can be seen beyond the immense archway.

Originally made of a fine barre gray granite, it seems likely that only
that fact has allowed it to stand against the decaying swamp with only a few
stains on its surface. The apparently thick stone is set into the ground
masterfully disallowing entry to the slippery green algae that permeates the
area outside the walls. Loud drips and splashes echo and reverberate all
around giving the distinct impression that despite the receding water there
is more at work to keep these halls dry.

that fact has allowed it to stand against the decaying swamp with only a few
stains on its surface. The apparently thick stone is set into the ground
masterfully disallowing entry to the slippery green algae that permeates the

that fact has allowed it to stand against the decaying swamp with only a few
stains on its surface. The apparently thick stone is set into the ground

Set atop a large lightly raised pedestal bathed from its underside in
red light, a spouting black fountain dominates the room. The same grey
speckled stone that formed the area around you continues to do so, except
for the etched dull obsidian that makes up the fountain. Gouts of water
fire towards the ceiling before landing with a splash, half in the basin and
half in the floor. If examined closely the spillwater can be seen carrying
loosened dry algae along with the water into the base of the fountain.

Standing in front of you is a massive gateless archway made of cypress
gathered from the nearby swamps. Its gnarled and tangled surface seems to
mostly be formed from the knees and limbs of the tree rather than the actual
base giving it a stringy and overall weak look. A distinctly faded line is
immediately noticeable about halfway up the wood, most likely from swamp
flooding. The wooden wall continues to the east and the west while
stonework can be seen beyond the immense archway.

This once somewhat useful path has now become more trouble than it was
ever worth; the holes in the cobblestone allowing stagnant swamp water to
permeate through the dirt. It looks as if any step upon the sludge could
cause the valiant stones hanging on for cohesion to finally give way to the
sands of time. The decaying plant life mixed with soupy mud upon a steep
downward slope make this a dangerous terrain to be walking on.

I think you have a good case that the hold person spell is bugged. If nothing else, the message you get when it interrupts spell casting is weird.

I suspect the confusion spell is more of a side show. I've played spellcasters who've been confused many times, without ever noticing something like this.

I'm just guessing here, but if I were to be writing the code, I'd have a temporary stack that holds temporary data about a character, like cast spells, wounds taken and so on. It's my guess that something in one of the spells cast on you is corrupting that stack and adding or leaving an eronious int/concentration penalty somewhere in that stack.
I'd modify the "release all" routine, and make it a lagging command, and while you're lagged, rebuild that temporary stack or validate the contents.
A moment's lag won't hurt in the majority of times you'd use release all since they're non-combat. If you're in combat, and that bug hits you, then a short lag is worth it to fix it.


This sound like it is most like the case. This would be why it happens when the hold person spell is not used.

As I said, it's not only the hold person spell. It has happened to me moments I haven't fought NPCs with such spells, and I don't have a reason to do it as a GM not melee char anyway.

The thing Kirina says seems more logical to me.
