In my meager experiences I'm always told 'if you get magic resistance on the item you're enchanting, fade it and start over.' This to me sounds like magic resistance is not something desired as an enchantment. It does seem strange others would want the item faded or destroyed at the time this particular enchantment comes up. Is this always the case or have I just run into several different people who feel the same way?

If the majority of people find magical resistance a hinderance, then the shops should pay less for it, and the quality should not be considered improved. The indication I get from most is that the armor is now 'worthless,' in fact.

Might I propose the elimination of magical resistance as an enchantment to 'enchant armor'? Or maybe someone can clue in the ignorant.

Resistance is a double edged sword. Firstly it prevents you from being hit by bad spells. That's right... harm? resisted... Magma? resisted... Finger of Death?!? resisted... Sleep, feeblemind, blinded, cursed, and all kinds of ouch/hurt/death stuffs? RESISTED!!!

Secondly, it prevents you from being hit by good spells. That's right... Healing? Resisted... Buffs such as giant strength? Resisted... The ever necessary Word of Recall vial that you need that moment before you go *POOF*... Resisted.

This is why some see it as useless. Others *LOVE* MR (Magic Resistance).

It is a buff, and will not and SHOULD NOT be removed from enchant armor.

There are some instances where magic resistance might be helpful. A sorceror or necromancer might want some magic resistance. Warlocks might want magic resistance. If you resist healing spells, that's no fun. If you're a necromancer or sorceror who's needing healed, that's probably a sign you're doing something wrong.

Ok that clears up the mud a bit. Heh. No matter for me. I get plenty of training in when things 'are no good.' ;) And maybe it's just me also that seems to get that particular enchantment with frightening regularity, or maybe in my bias, I just see it that way.

It's one of the easier things to enchant an item with. It's gonna pop up.

Erm Fepel. you don't resist spells that you cannot cast on other people I think. You cant cast WoR, Ethereal, death shroud, and a few other spells on others and so these spells are not resisted if I remember right.

Spells from magic devices such as vials, pills, herbs, wands, staves, and scrolls *CAN* and *WILL* be resisted. All scripts, even if the spell is a self only cast spell will also fail since they originate from a magical device.

You are correct though that spells that are only self target such as detections, teleport, word of recall, etherealness, mirror image, death shroud, stone skin, resist elements, call armor, and others cannot be resisted if and only if they originate from the caster. That is why necros/sorcs/warlocks at times will build suits of MR since some of the invocations they would use on themselves are not impacted by MR.

I'd say that 90% if not more of all WoRs come from magic devices, and that is the one you do *NOT* want to get resisted.

Woops, didn't notice you said vial. Been playing priests and hellions too long. Always had the actual spell.

Only sorc and perhaps necro should bother to get an MR suit. Any other class should try to get fort/will/MP instead.

And ilkaisha is right. And she has enchanted a LOT of things for me, that are junked usually after the 4th enchantment.
