Just how much fortitude does a person need to be safe from spells? My character has between 25-35 fortitude and he was petrified in one spell. Didn't resist or anything? I have heard of people talking about stacking saves, how much stacking does it take?

Numbers will not be given here and should not be given here.

But I will say that it's a roll of a dice. The range of chance is what you should be looking for so there is no set 'number'.

Fort is fort bonuses from mods/spells, and your constitution. But with the advent of art you need to take that into account to making your comparison.

Experiment and have fun.

Since I don't feel like reading any more cryptic posts, I'll tell you this.

If you have the fort you say you do, especially if its more to the higher side, then you're pretty good to go. If you have a naturally magic resistant race that helps out a lot. If you don't have a naturally magic resistant race, you might want to seek a little more.

A thing to keep in mind though, is that no matter how much of a save you have, it will not 100% protect you. It has been made clear by D that there is a small chance that no matter what happens, the spell will still land. Think of it like a critical success.

An example of this would be the time frollith, who had probably double the amount you claim to have, was dropped by a finger of death scroll. I'd seen him eat fod's from many a maxed out art necro and shrug it off and then some scroll trashed him.

Yeah, I love it when some buff giant comes up to me sneering and I drop him in one one-in-a-million hit.

It's funny: Necros generally tend to go on art rampages. FoD will do tiny bitty little damage for months and months, and then for about an hour it'll land all criticals. Weird. 8)
