What if instead of a new character race or class, we combine the two and do something that would deeply enrich the game. For those that have the ability to hold on to their characters to age die, imagine if through the powers of the arcane (or whatever) they were allowed to live on in different forms.

Prerequisites being that the character is 1)Grand Mastered, 2)Age dead, and 3) Has a reasonable and logical RP source to move on.

The possibilities are endless. Different strengths, different weaknesses.
One weakness: imagine if they are summonable and charmable for Grand-masters of similar alignments. If the summoner/charmer looses the spell and thus control of the "ancient ones" then they could get ganked or spared depending on the RP and alignment issues.
Another idea; if the prerequisit is for the character to be GM at time of age death, imagine if there were more energy draining devices around. That would make all of those old characters to be forced to RP protection or hide out like a miserable hermit in a spider hole for fear of loosing GM status before age tick. How exciting that would be! There would be mass campaigns trying to stop powerful foes from going on.

Strengths: Maybe each alignment or afterlife type can have it's own skill set and spell set. Kinda like a cabal or something. Just enough that is not too overboard, but still adds great color to the game. There would be a much deeper world to explore this way.

Another strength idea. Imagine they had the ability to enter the realm of the dead and push enemy souls into the "swamp". Drawback is that they can fall there too. Imagine epic battles in the realm of the dead!

What do you guys think?
Seriously! imagine Slayne as a real undead knight! Imagine Delear as a Dark Lord! Imagine Frollith as an Angelic avatar. All with great strength and great weakness, but adding something amazing nontheless.

Lucius out....

Note: I did not even attempt to write in proper sentax or spelling -too tired. So if you are one of those types that like to make fun of such things, spare me. Yes, I am looking at you Jardek. :o

Just look at the idea for what it is.

This really is a lovely idea, but I think we'd have people who'd make a character, gm, play just long enough to not get deleted, and then we'd have angels and stuff noone had ever heard of or seen before. We'd need another requisite or something.

There could be an hour requirement, kind of like those required to keep leader flags. I'd imagine that the implementation of this idea would result in a large increase in the populations of short-lived races, such as griffons, though.

I'm a bit confused as to what you mean here. Would these dead people be, basically, new classes with the ability to interact with both the living and the dead? Could you kill other people? What would happen if you died?

Sounds like a recipe for inactivity.

Thats a good idea. There will definitely have to be some sort of criteria that is attainable but weeds out twinks. Also, the "summonableness" and forced RP will be enough to make most twinks shy away from this process.

If these characters die, they should skip the river and go to the swamp. Perhaps even add an additional layer to the swamp called "the void". That way, if defeated they would be vanquished from the lands of light and life for an aggrevating period. They could still speak to the minds of the living, but be outside of the dimensions all together.

And yes, this class-race would be interacting with both living and dead. They would for all intensive purposes be in both worlds. Take Dimmel for example. The guy was a Grandmaster Necro and dead. He is chilling in the afterlife and can still RP by manifesting to people he knows. Why not go the extra logical step. Such a powerful character would find a way to buck nature.

Eh, more Edrain devices would work a lot different than you say. People would not "hide out" they just would not log in, then when they were past the age death point, log in, die, and be an "angel" or whatever.

Also we dont want to inspire hiding out hermit type playing, we want interaction.

Isn't that perhaps a generic answer though? Having all types of interaction is what makes roleplaying seem a bit more realistic and fun. Hermits included. I can name 5 hermits that have made this game great. For every one over cautious player, there will be two dozen bright-eyed newbies.

I think this is a bad idea, and I'll tell you why (though I was originally intending not to make a post in this thread).

There is no age reduction spell. This, of course, makes very little sense to you. But if there is no age reduction spell (which is a stock priest spell in a lot of muds), it follows on that there is no intention to allow a character to live (or unlive) forever.

I could maybe understand an idea along the lines of a spirit being able to manifest to some spiritual point, like their recall point, in order to RP after everyone they know is dead, but the idea of letting them keep playing in the conventional sense of the word is alien to this game.

I think this is overcome by the fact that very few would ever have the ability or desire to move on. Those that did, would do nothing but add to the mud in a greater sense.

If you think of SK as some sort of formula, then I can see where this is too far out of the box in your eyes. However our IMM staff has made something different than a typical mud.
