Since it seems dispel magic has a lot to do with dispelling magic of all kinds, be it AoE spells, charm, buffs, etc, would it be OP to be able to dispel weapons and armor? Bare in mind that this should not remove cursed enchantments (minus to whatever) as that is the point of remove curse (and it would keep in tune with dispel only removing positive spells, other than charm), but other magic could be vulnerable. Here are just some rough ideas of messages and possible outcomes of dispelling items:

-You completly dispel a wicked claymore!
[no enchantments at all, maybe reduced quality?]

-You manage to sap some of the power from a wicked claymore.
[remove up to three(ish) enchantments, but not all]

-A wicked claymore's runes of power remain intact.
[nothing happens]

-A wicked claymore shivers and explodes!
[maybe even magic missile the caster as if fragments hit them?]

Totally overpowered, considering it's casted offensively against others' EQ.

Ah I didn't specify but I assumed the target would have to be restricted to eq in your inventory (like enchant) because of the focus required etc.

Rather useless then. Why bother to code something none would ever use? Especially if you can't decide which enchantment will be gone from a piece of EQ. So your +4 MP/+4 MR item might end up +1 MP/+4 MR so it's even worse. I'd prefer to just fade it.

Bad for that reason exactly but what if, the item has to be in your posession would that make it better?

Well the only reason I suggest it is that I seem to only be able to blow [REDACTED] up, and by the time I do manage to fade something it is at near god-like quality, and useless to a mentor. It would just be a safer way of fading that would make things a little easier on the lower level enchanters/friends of enchanters (keeping the quality down a bit more). It would also give a bit more logical purpose to dispel--it works on positive magic and some negative magic and some neutral magic (AoE), why not this magic?

Enchanting items isn't supposed to be easy. I'd rather see the difficulty come more from skill than time and chance. But considering how powerful enchanting already is, I don't see any need for this.

I fail to see how the ability to fade something easier makes it over powered?
