No they should not retain their old race. In SK undead is a race onto itself with certain benefits and drawbacks. I don't believe a necromancer should be able to "diversify" his minions weaknesses by actually controlling undead elves and giants and so on.

On the other hand if you are asking if SK undead should remain undead, but in appearance only resemble their former race, that would be a nice touch. Again, it would have no effect on game mechanics but would add flavor to the necromancer class. I would support this, but in fairness I have no idea how much work it would be for an impact on RP that would be how big? That is a cost/benefit question only D could truly answer though.

I'm all about it.

I'd like to further propose that animated undead of player corpses should retain the player's name.

A zombie Cilek searches for brains.

And undead named NPCs.

Prince Lathron's Wraith festers with maggots.

On this note, I'd also like to see people able to set pets, animates, charmies, dominatees, tames, and conjured thingies actions. So I can have all my undead with gross things like festering with maggots and writhing with flies.

Or my wolf licking its...paws.

Think of the rp!

SK Character: Salak
Most people can't even keep their own actions straight...imagine how it'll be with 30 undead.

All those mummies with tattered rags blowing in the breeze...in the depths of Ch'zzrym...

This is a truly excellent idea to add to the flavor of SK rp. If D was to add this and targetable emotes, I would be in SK RP heaven. I do like the undead maintaining an "appearance" of their former life as well.

I'm done rambling...for the moment.

I think for the sake of roleplay it would be really cool if animated players were possible to recognize. Or at least make different shapes of animates (centaur, griffon, humanoid...ect)

yeah salak, but people can't see their own actions and they forget about them, thats why they can't keep them straight.

If you're rolling with a pet and you see its action is screwed up every time you hit look, I doubt you'd be so apt as to leave it messed up.
