Post subject: Create Symbol for Paladins/Hellions
PostPosted: Sat Dec 30, 2006 3:58 am
Just a simple request, since there are no longer mobiles in game that give out these symbols, and the knight faiths typically are dominated by the knight classes (even in paladin faiths, they are seen as the holiest, warriors, perfection of sword and prayer) that HF paladin/hellions have the ability to make create symbol since they, too, are conduits of their gods?

I don't think this is a silly request, but something that should exist to encourage more participation in the H/P faiths. It is more important to those faiths too, symbol-wise.

What do you all, and more importantly Dulrik, think?

I agree. I also think that, seeing as the knight religions are dominated by knights, that paladins and hellions should receive heal, harm, and resurrection.

It's only fair.

OOoooooh, this is where you get the reply that paladins and hellions aren't priests.

Make the HF able to make them. The paladin/hellion faiths seldom have problems with symbols, it's the obscure, low-populated faiths that lack in priests.

It's a perk of priests. obscure faiths can easily draw a priest player who can be granted F2 in short time just for symbols. I would go with near dead faiths just to have my [REDACTED] kissed if I made another priest.

Maybe this is the reason you aren't attracting enough F2-quality priests?

Yet even a single high priest should be enough. A high priest doesn't have to hand out every symbol personally.

If you don't have any priest, then admittedly your religion has a problem - an IC problem. Get used to being without a symbol until you fix it.

Actually, there isn't an issue with inactive priests. It's an RP thing I'd like to see 'fixed.'

I don't see how giving them CS is out of concept or somehow unbalacing or less meaningful to priests.

Let us check the list of things priests get that make them valuable:

Heal.
Sanctuary.
Resurrection.
Gate.
Enchant
Brew
Word of Recall.

Strange, I don't know about you, but when I've been fighting someone/something, I've never gtelled "quick! create a symbol!"

Knights are conduits of their Gods and are a CLERICAL class. They are holy/unholy templars and I don't see any reason why if they get their spells from their patron God, that they can not get the ability to forget a symbol.

The issue isn't with Knights dominating churches and thusly there are no clerics (in fact, I can name a church that's grown since it's come under a rather ruthless rule), but I just do not see (nor have I ever) why paladins/hellions do not conjure that power through their patron Gods, especially when dignity, honor, respect etc are so central to their RP.

I strongly disagree with the idea knights are a clerical class. They're a highly religiously dedicated class but they're not the priests. I haven't heard of any knights in the 1100s ever being the preachers in the churches, but I have heard of them seeking the advice of said preachers.

Even in SK the lowliest priest of the religion was still RPed as higher than most of the knights. Only HF knights were above F1 priests. At least over the years it was that way.

Wanna make holy symbols? Be a priest. Don't wanna be a priest? Seek one out so you can have your symbol.

Wow. Do some history lessons. Even Kings were Knights ordained by GOD who could appoint bishops and other holy men in Gods name.

Uh. No. Maybe in some paladin-faith, but I've never seen a hellion religion with a strong hellion HF that was not the absolute final word in his faith.

Yeah. God forbid if we try to add to this game. Let's keep status quo all the time.

Grakus only wants this because he has a hellion. :P

That being said, he's right, history wise. He's also right, sk-wise. The Crimson Templars have a in game writing that makes them the "final word" of the clergy - in fac,t it's written that if a Crimson Templar tells another member of the faith to jump, they jump. In Fear, when I had Pellaeon, Kalum deferred faith matters to me - and when In War, you'd better damn believe Slayne gets the final say, and so does the HK of Ain. The only deviation to this pattern, seems to be Truth.
