Something about this seems a little odd. Let me lay out the story...

About 1.5 weeks ago, I was given 2 identical skins by a scout. He said it might get stolen from me, so instead of doing anything with it, I held onto it. Logged in/out 3-5 times (until I could meet a priest). I figured since it wasn't stolen yet, I could go ahead and enchant one. If it gets stolen, I'll make a backpack out of the other. If it doesn't, then I'll do something with the other. I logged in-out again several times (normal logins, I was in no rush... :P). After a few logins I figured I could keep it, made a backpack. (Just to be on the safe side, I put nothing in it for another set of logins...)

I wear the backpack, and decide to go grind out a few more levels. Hit master (which was the level of the skin)... RPed and then logged out. Logged back in, and its gone.

So now the question: Why did it take over 8 logins (since I got it enchanted) for something that should have already been stolen to finally be stolen. I had all low level stuff except one, likely Mentor level TS claymore. (Maybe lower). So why did the backpack get stolen now? And if my backpack was stolen by the weapon I picked up in my last log in, why was the backpack stolen? I makes sense to have a backpack + all its contents stolen, but something in the backpack stolen in the backpack shouldn't cause the owner to loose all its contents...

A simplified form of the equation that calculates things getting 'stolen' upon login:

Chance for thieves take items? = Character level versus Items level

Here's a few interesting things:
The closer character level is to item level, the less likely something gets stolen.
If character cannot locate the item, then the character has a chance to lose it.
Each login more than one items can be stolen.
Enchanting raises item level per enchant.
It is possible to be extremely lucky and never lose an item, or sometimes losing an item at the very login.

I have had things lost from within containers, but kept the container before. So this may be an isolated case, unless both the item and container were lost at the same time, in which case it may be difficult to discern. My 2 cents.

Piamlie,

Thank you for the help. I'm was 90% sure my question doesn't have an answer to it, since its a specific question about the log-in thieves. To humor you however, I did a search, and really didn't find any concrete answers... as I originally expected.

(1) Indeed. Kinda makes little sense why I lost it when I reached a higher level doesn't it?
(2) Don't have that spell, so I can't tell you.
(3) Already know this... and it doesn't change my question at all.
(4-5) Indeed. The priest who enchanted it told me it was Master... I held onto it for several logs in before making it into a backpack, and holding on to it for yet several more log ins. I suppose there is a small percentage chance that I held onto it even when I shouldn't have, but I doubt the SK's random number generate is that bad...

If there is an IMM that gives a flying f*** about this, go ahead and PM me if you need more details. I'll be happy to give them. If not...

Random means random. If you only had a 1% chance to lose it, then that's not very high, but it's still 1% every time you log on. It might take a long time (like you said that it did), but you will run out of luck eventually.

Well, I had a trouble the other night with logon theives stealing my gear last night...

I was apprentice 4, and had all my noobieschool gear stolen! Even my precious glowing ones!

Why do theives set on on people and steal their noobie gear?

They're noobie thieves.
